Cat Vaccinations

November 25th, 2010, 01:35 PM
I was wondering what the general concensus is regarding vaccinations?

We adoped Roxie and Kasey from the OSPCA about a year ago. I know they were vaccinated there but have not been vaccinated since we got them. Both have been tested for FELV and FIV and they are both negative. They both tested positive for the coronavirus when they had fecals done last year but our vet said that a large majority of shelter cats are exposed to this.

They are approximately 2 years old and are indoor only.

Our previous cat, Tigger was also indoor only and I did not have her vaccinated after she was 10 years old, she passed away last year at 18.

I have been out of the vaccination loop for about 9 years. I have read a few things regarding injection site cancers and that adverse reactions to vaccines seem to be increasing.

My preference would be not to vaccinate but are there any that are required by law (rabies?) and what should be done, could be done, shouldn't be done?

Thank you for the information.
