This may sound a little gross but when you see a fresh new hole dug up, put pieces of your puppies poo in the whole and re-cover it with the dirt.

If he digs another hole, fill it with poop and so on. Most dogs don't like stepping in poo and after a few holes being filled with his poop, you should see the hole digging go away.

Worked great for all our dogs and it doesn't cost anything. :thumbs up

Oh BTW...Welcome back and when you have a spare moment (or 2), pictures of your new little guy would be great! :thumbs up

Is your pup supervised when outdoors? Chances of him digging if someone is keeping him busy with play and exercise is next to none . Would giving him a designated place to dig be an option for you? That way you can teach him to dig in one spot and leave the rest of the yard alone.
