Snuffly Cat

November 10th, 2010, 03:40 PM
We adopted 2 cats (brothers) 3 years ago - they will be 4 years old in January 2011. The smaller of the two has always had a snuffly nose - it seems not to cause him any problems but sometimes when he breathes in, you can hear it.

On his last check-up, the veterinarian mentioned the possibility of asthma. He listened to his chest and said his lungs were a little noisier than they should be and to keep watch.

I've looked up feline asthma and the sites I looked at tended to mention coughing as the key symptom of asthma in cats - and our cat hasn't coughed at all.

Has anyone else got or had a cat who is a noisy breather? Can it just be that he is naturally snuffly? I myself recently had surgery to remove nasal polyps so I wonder if cats can have similar problems? I'm thinking he just has very narrow nostrils or something.

Any thoughts/comments?
