Well, we've finally come to the day where our baby is interested in the dog. The dog was laying down and I was sitting beside him. Our baby (5 months) reached over and started to feel Simba's tail.
The dog is very good and generally ignores the baby, but does anyone know of any books or websites for teaching/training children how to behave around dogs?

I would strongly suggest you get "how to live with dogs and kids...without losing your mind" by colleen pelar and also go to www.dogsandstorks.com to find out the best information about a new baby and dogs. I thing this may be very helpful.
There is also some other books that I would suggest you look at they are inexpensive and there is a great one about body language which I think would also be very helpful.
One very useful tip never ever ever even for 1 minute leave a dog alone with a child. Trust me I have a friend dealing with a dog bite to her child and all her fault she left a kid with a dog to answer the door and stopped for the phone and lo and behold her kid got bit. I would bet my life the kid did something I had warned her in the past about the rough way her kid is with the dog and eventually the kid would get bit. She is not putting the dog down but her brother who agrees with me is taking the dog. The dog is absolutely a sweetie and the kid well not so sweet.
I would not want you to ever have to go through this

Here's a list for you. Really, I'm not on their payroll . I just have an awfully difficult time finding anglophone books on these topics in our province.
Ian Dunbar also has a dvd, Every Picture Tells A Story.
There's also this site http://doggonesafe.com/ that has very important information/articles in preventing dog bites and protecting both children and dogs.

Great site if you can't find a book anywhere they have it. Lots of good info there. Someone from the Mastiff group I belong to sent me there to find a book and lo and behold they had it.
