Dog urinating only drips coming out

October 5th, 2010, 09:49 AM

A few days ago, it was noticed that our female dog of about 13 years old was attempting to urinate only to have a few drips come out at a time.

So we took her to the vet, and blood work and x-rays were done.

The blood work came back fine, as well as the x-rays showed no stones of any sort. The vet said it could be neurological.

Antibiotics were given, and the urine flow has improved slightly.

Does anyone have any suggestions on things that may be done to improve the situation? It doesn't seem like the vet has anything else to offer besides suggesting a $2000 MRI.

Did the vet do a urinalysis? That would have been one of the first things I'd expect them to do.

Thanks for asking... yes, a urine test was also done that turned up fine.

I agree with Bendyfoot get the urinalysis done that will probably give you a better idea of what is going on

Urine analysis comes up with everything is fine.

She has now stopped eatting and is barely drinking. Not looking good... but vet doesn't seem to have any ideas.

Joebann I am not sure where your located but did the vet give you a copy of the urinalysis? What meds did the vet give? If your dog is lethargic now and not eating considering the age and problem of not being able to urinate properly I would highly suggest that you go see another vet for a second opinion. Please dont leave it long as your dog can go down hill very quickly.

I am surprised that your vet only gave you an MRI as an option??? sounds a tad strange?? did he even mention bloodwork? or a blood panel?

Hmmm this sounds serious. If it were me I'd probably ask for a copy of all tests and ask my vet for a referral to a specialist OR I would take those tests and get a second opinion from a recommended vet.

Good luck!
