Is it safe for cats to eat newspaper/magazines?

Our cat, Buffette has a taste for newspaper and some magazines (seems to really like Entertainment Weekly). We don't allow the cats on the table. We always have them get down when they are on there. Starting a few days ago, if there was something on the table that she wanted to eat, we'd tell her to get down, which she would. Then, she would pull down the paper and start munching away. We try not to keep any paper out that she can get to, but once in a while, one gets left out. Will it harm her to eat those papers?

We have a similar problem with our dog, Brier--not the table hopping, the paper-eating :D

I asked the same question of our vet and was told that as long as the ink is non-toxic and just small amounts are being ingested, there shouldn't be a problem. Our newspaper uses only nontoxic soy inks. A phone call or email might be all it takes to find out what type of ink is being used.
