We just got cats and the dog is peeing in the house again

We have three dogs and, as of three weeks ago, two kittens. Two of the dogs have adapted to the cats very well, but one is still having issues.

She's been peeing/pooping in the house again. She's been potty trained for years and has unrestricted access to the yard during the day and night.

The peeing is primarily right outside the bedroom door (all the easier to step in when she pees there:D), and the pooping is downstairs in the living room.

I understand that she's likely just marking her territory and is uneasy with the changes in her environment. Other than just riding it out, does anyone have any suggestions for what we should do?

Welcome to the board, monkmullen!

First thing would be a vet visit to rule out anything physical. If it's a medical problem, waiting it out will only make it worse.

How does she behave around the cats?

Thanks for the welcome, and for the tip about the vet! We're unfortunately going to be out of the country until Monday, but we'll take her in as soon as we get back.

She's actually behaving fairly well around the cats. If they're in a playful mood, then she'll be right next to them trying to play too. If they're relaxed and just laying around, she's likely doing the same.

We kept the cats in another room for a couple of weeks after we brought them home. The dogs could smell them through the door and vice versa. Once we introduced them face-to-face, the dogs were understandably excited, but they've all calmed down quite a bit now. That introduction was at least two or three weeks ago, and the cats have been roaming the house for a while too, so that's why we're so surprised that this marking behavior is still going on.

Is the dog spayed?

Yes, she's been fixed.

We were out of town for three days. During that time, the dogs were locked in the laundry room/dog run during the day, and let into the house in the afternoon and stayed in overnight. This is their normal routine.

The cats were left inside.

When we got back, we expected to hear about how bad the dog had been - peeing, pooping, all around terrorizing, etc. However, apparently they were very good.

No pee.
No poop.
And the cats are still alive.

They did get into the toy box, but we can live with that. :)

She's also been very good since we got back on Sunday with no incidents so far.

We still need to take her to the vet, but for the time being we'll just keep an eye on her and count our blessings.
