Hi
Our eight month old lab scratches himself a lot the next one-two days after giving him a bath, using a dog shampoo
Any suggestions on a brand of dog shampoo that would prevent this itching?
Regards

How many baths are you giving him ? Weekly ? Monthly ? Because that could be the problem. His skin gets itchy from too many baths.

I only give mine a bath about once a year , in between baths , I wash them with dry shampoo if they're dirty , or with a face cloth. :dog:

What brand are you using? How often are you bathing? It's really not necessary to bathe often as it strips the coat and skin of natural protective oils. Unless our dogs are super filthy, we only hose them down with warm water. We use EarthBath Shampoo and, for puppies, either the Clear Advantage or the Hypo-Allergenic ones. Fragrance and color free are always your best options. You can find it in most small pet supply stores (not chain stores) in the Montreal area. If you'd like, I can pm you a list of stores that carry it since the store locator on the site doesn't seem to be working for Mtl .

I've also used EarthBath for cats, good stuff :thumbs up

Another thing is to always rinse 1-2 times after bathing pets to remove any residual shampoo.

Hi
Thanks for the advice provided
Seems like the problem is the frequency of baths. We are washing him every two weeks approx. We will definetely severly reduce the frequency, and just rinse him with warm water from now on.
We will also try that other product which was suggested.
Again, many thanks. This site is great.

One of our pomanerians had the itching problem after bath, it had to do with the shampoo we were using. Since then we switched to some sensitive skin type shampoo from the vet, she's been fine since.

I've been wondering about the dry shampoo, how good is it? When the 2 of them get into a little wrestling exercise, one would pull the other one over the floor, like sweeping the floor for us! We try to keep the floor clean all the time, but with the amount of fur they have, they don't seem to be as always fluffy!
