Urine behavior problem or illness

September 10th, 2004, 11:53 AM

I have a 5yr. old grey female cat, who in the last few months has been urinating everywhere except her litter box. We have tried spraying the spots where she goes (on the carpet in front of TV, behind the couch, on the hardwood floor in L.R., behind the wall unit) just a few places, there are more. We got another litterbox, no help, and she does it right in front of us, which is really unlike cats. She has a friend, brought home the same time as she, and they get along very well. I am very upset because I lost my own cat a yr. ago. My son says perhaps we will have to have her put down. Please help, because she is so sweet. By the way her name is Murka.

Could be the start of a urinary tract infection.

Take her to the vet. It really isn't costly if that is a concern....but only if you take her right away.

Please don't think about killing this cat without a vet visit.

As Donna Marie said, it could very well be a bladder infection, which is very painful and will definitely make a cat pee outside the box.

If this has been left untreated for months, it could have gotten quite serious by now.

Please take her asap!
