Cat roaming by-law

For those that live in a community where a cat roaming by-law has taken effect, have you noticed a reduction in outside cats? Or do cat owners continue letting their cats wander the neighbourhood regardless of the new by-law?

Nope.

Yup.

When I worked as a Animal Protection Officer, our Humane Society serves two cities. One has a cat by-law, the other does not. Cat bylaw in effect, people still didn't care. Only soultion, was the annoyed neighbours would trap the cat, we come pick it up and the owners would have to come down and pay the fee. mostly didn't resolve the issue, just the pissed off owners...we would advice them to put a leash on their cat, and go into the dangers of having their cats roam

The most insane comment I would get is..."I can't control my cat" I am like geesh...it's a cat. People just don't care.

That's what I can't get either. I've said it before on here. Cats weigh probably between 8 to 18 pounds average. We weigh how much? And WE can't control THEM? Why? 'Cause we can't put up with the meowing? Life time commitment people!!!!! :wall::wall:

As for the by law it is only as effective as the people who own the cats are responsible. It's pretty easy to say "It ain't MY cat!" :frustrated:

I know. It's frustating. I also like when they would say "oh well he runs out when I open the door"..Grr..it's like seriously..I don't know about you, but I also watch to see were my cat is before I open up the door, so she doesn't run, or if she is at the door, I scoot her away from the door...apparantley it is too hard for people to comprehend...well, i just chalk it up to again people don't care.

or they get the call that I picked their cat off the side of the road, come by the shelter to indentify it and if they want it cremated and their ashes back.

As for the "it ain't my cat" comment...i always think...well their cat is better off here at the shelter, then with them. At least the cat will get a second chance at a better life, as indoor cat.
