I hope that this thread does not violate an advertising rule or anything. I am not affiliated with this company in any way but I do write scripts to them for clients. The option of this pharmacy has been able to help many of my patients where other options have failed.

Roadrunner Pharmacy is an Arizona based compounding pharmacy. Unlike other compounding pharmacies, this one is veterinary only. The advantages to this are that the pharmacists focus on veterinary formulations as opposed to just filling the odd pet drug. Thus the pharmacists are trained on canine, feline and exotic absorption levels, common doses, uses and side effects.

Furthermore they have a high level of quality control, a wide variety of flavoring options, home delivery and now service Canada.

Best of all they have exceptionally reasonable prices. One of the medications that I have been recently scripting with them is modified (microemulsified) cyclosporine. This medication is commonly used with allergy and autoimmune diseases. Until I have had several long discussions with the pharmacists on their modified cyclosporine, I have been very reluctant to use anyone other than the Novartis Atopica brand. Unfortunately Atopica is very expensive. I now have several patients on the Roadrunner modified cyclosporine and the patients are doing as well as on Atopica and the owner are very pleased on the savings. In these economic times, this has been a wonderful option.

I also use them for topical medications when we cannot give a pill or liquid. The most common is for hypothyroid cats. The owner can add a small amount of cream to the ear to get the medication absorbed. While topicals sometimes have different absorbtive rates, this medication has been performing consistenly well with my patients for several years.

So when special doses (small pets, exotics, etc.), flavoring, cost issues are present, this pharmacy might be one that pet owners can consider.

Thanks, Dr. Lee, my coworker, not too long ago was looking for a compounding pharmacy to get meds for her hyper t kitty.

I typically prescribe it at 5mg/0.1ml. This means that most cats get 0.05cc of cream on the ear once or twice a day. The amount is so small and easy! The cats do great with it. The blood levels support very nice control. Definitely worth a try!:)
