krdahmer May 21st, 2010, 12:17 PM Was about to get in the shower for work this morning when I heard Fagan being a little more whiny than normal....he always announces all of his visits to the litter box (very handy at times like this) but never has any issues actually going. But today I found him meowling under my coffee table upstairs with a big poop stuck half in and half out his butt and he seemed to be really uncomfortable. I tried to take it off for him thinking it might just be a cling on but no such luck. So I called and rushed him to the vet. They did an xray while I was there, and she says the piece I brought her is very dense and dry (Fagan drinks and pees the most around here and does also eat wet food). There was nothing else in the xray only the poop thats ready to come out but won't. So they have him and are going to try an enema or sedate him a little and remove it manually. The vet mentioned that he may be digesting hair balls, because I did mention to her that he, as far as I know, has never actually hacked one up. I thought maybe it was because he didn't shed much, but now that I think of it even when he was chirring and ingesting all that belly fur he didn't ever hack it back up in a fur ball.....
I'll let ya know how it all turns out and then I may need some advice on helping him digest those fur balls....I did stop giving the coconut oil....maybe I should start that again?
14+kitties May 21st, 2010, 12:28 PM :grouphug: Poor Fagan. Dr M or Dr B? I hope they don't have to do too much to the poor boy. Gotta boogie. Work time. Will check this when I get home.
Dog Dancer May 21st, 2010, 12:34 PM Poor Fagan, hopefully like 14+ said they won't have to be too aggressive in treating him. Keep us posted how he's doing later on.
hazelrunpack May 21st, 2010, 02:18 PM Aw, poor Fagan! :(
I hope he's better soon! :goodvibes: :grouphug:
chico2 May 21st, 2010, 04:25 PM Aww Dahmer,I hope he'll be ok,my Vinnie and Rocky also never coughed up hairballs, only Chico.
:pray:for Fagan:fingerscr
krdahmer May 21st, 2010, 06:10 PM well because of how stressed he was when they touched him they had to sedate him to get his bowels moving.... and so he's staying overnight, I pick him up in the am. :( I really hate when he has to stay there because he gets so aggressive even if it's just overnight, and that's so unlike him. And my boss was pressuring me to work tomorrow cause they're short....I really hope they don't need me, I'd like to keep an eye on him after he comes home to make sure he's ok. And I am going to start the coconut oil again tomorrow, the vet suggested omega 3 but they seem to have problems (the runs) with anything fish based.
When I called he was ok, just really groggy, and they want to make sure he has a poop on his own tonight.
krdahmer May 21st, 2010, 06:11 PM Oh and it was both 14.... Dr.B was doing the appts, but Dr.M came in while I was there and checked in on him (I think she has a soft spot for him cause he's been there so often)
hazelrunpack May 21st, 2010, 08:23 PM I'm sorry he didn't get to come home today, kr :grouphug:
:goodvibes: for success overnight and a peaceful homecoming!
14+kitties May 21st, 2010, 09:38 PM Well, at least you got the good doc for a while.
If you have to go to work can you put Fagan in your office by himself while you are there? Maybe with the holiday it won't be all that busy and you won't have to stay long. He would be more comfy without the others bugging him for a while, right?
I have my :fingerscr he's ok!! :goodvibes:
krdahmer May 21st, 2010, 09:51 PM ya if I do have to leave I prob will set him up in the office till I get home....I always have a small litter box ready to go for in here just in case, so it's not a big deal. I'd just really rather stay home with him, I'm really missing my dudie kisses and snuggles tonight. :o
14+kitties May 21st, 2010, 10:03 PM Not the same thing but :grouphug: No kisses. Sorry. :p
I have to work first thing in the morning then have till Tues afternoon off. Yay!!!! First weekend in 17 weeks. :thumbs up
TeriM May 22nd, 2010, 01:36 AM Hope Fagan is feeling better :goodvibes: :fingerscr :goodvibes:.
chico2 May 22nd, 2010, 07:27 AM Sorry to hear Fagan had to stay over night.
I keep telling my vet that all 3 of my cats are absolute sweethearts and cuddlebums, but they turn in to Tigers at the vets.:cat:
I am sure, were they to stay over night, they would neither eat,nor poop or pee,so I hope that will not happen:fingerscr
Hopefully by now,Fagan is back with you..:grouphug:
Love4himies May 22nd, 2010, 08:16 AM Oh no, poor Fagan :( :grouphug:. Hopefully he is OK today. :goodvibes::goodvibes:

Frenchy May 22nd, 2010, 09:26 AM Hoping Fagan is home and doing better :fingerscr
krdahmer May 22nd, 2010, 10:38 AM He is.... home and better, he's had a couple poops, and they sent him home with Lactulose. He was still pretty dopey today, I'm imagining they gave him some pain meds this am, and after sticking to me like glue for a half hour or so:cloud9::lovestruck:, he is snuggled on the bed with buddy sleeping it off. And they don't need me at work....so I'm gonna snuggle him good! ;)
ancientgirl May 22nd, 2010, 02:15 PM Poor Fagan. I'm glad he's better. That's scary that something like that could happen and clog them up like that. What's the Lactulose for?
Love4himies May 22nd, 2010, 02:58 PM Glad to hear he is home :thumbs up. How is he taking the lactulose?
14+kitties May 22nd, 2010, 09:41 PM He is.... home and better, he's had a couple poops, and they sent him home with Lactulose. He was still pretty dopey today, I'm imagining they gave him some pain meds this am, and after sticking to me like glue for a half hour or so:cloud9::lovestruck:, he is snuggled on the bed with buddy sleeping it off. Feel better now Mommy? :cloud9: I bet Fagan does. :thumbs up
krdahmer May 22nd, 2010, 10:18 PM the lactulose is a stool softener- if he starts to get runny poop, I may wean him off it and restart the coconut oil. it's a syrup and it's a sticky mess which explains why his face fur is all gunked up. have any of you guys had to use it before?
hazelrunpack May 23rd, 2010, 08:13 PM I'm happy to hear that he's better, if a little stickier :o I'm sure both of you are happy he's back home :cloud9:
