How can I tell if my male cat Lola is spaying or peeing ? I've never caught him in the act, but he is doing one or the other::crazy:He has been to the vet and he is healthy. He also poops in closets when left open:cry: . Everyone I talk to says to have him put down and that his behaviour will only worsen ( and it has ) . My cat is not disposable, we love him and I want to do what's best for all of us. Any ideas ?

teegee,having had cats that spray(I still have them,but they've stopped:thumbs up)
You don't give us much to go on,we cannot really say if he is spraying or peeing,is there any pee on the wall??
If he is peeing he would be hunched down, but spraying he would be up-right.
Is his litter-box in a place where it's quiet and calm??
What kind of litter are you using?
I am glad you are not planning on "getting rid of"him,I had a problem with mine for several years.

Spraying tends to be aimed at vertical surfaces, and tends to be in smaller amounts. Peeing is more typically a good size puddle on a horizontal surface (although there are cats that mark horizontally, it's much less common).

Does your kitty use the box at least some of the time?

He has been to the vet and he is healthy.

When did this behaviour start? What tests did the vet do (ie was a urinalysis or culture and senstivity done on a urine sample acquired via cystocentisis?)?

He also poops in closets when left open

How many litter boxes do you have and where are they located, what kind of litter do you use, and how often do you clean them? Also, are the boxes covered or uncovered? These are all factors that need to be taken into consideration when a cat stops using the box regularly. Diet is something else to consider: what does Lola eat (wet or dry, brands, flavours)?

The vet did a urine test and an all 'round physical on Lola. He's in great :highfive:health. I've changed his litter butthat was only yesterday. I purchased Live for life it has an attraction to cats, so here's hoping:pray: His diest hasn't changed at all. From a kitten he was on royal canin and now he eats the same but adult style. I've never seem his pee/spray, i simply find the evidence:confused: and no there doesn't appear to be any on the walls:cat: We brought a puppy into the family last September but Lola was doing his spray/pee before we got the puppy( although not as frequently). I have noticed that when Jerzee ( my puppy) has an accident Lola will pee on the exact spot:shrug:, territorial thing ? I've purchased numerous things ( sprays powders etc ) but none have worked. Our home is really starting to stink:yell:, I did buy some natures way yesterday as well, fingers crossed.:pawprint:
