The 30 Second Between Posts Rule

You know I could have counted us to a million and back in the counting thread several times over if it weren't for that dangnabid rule. :D
Just curious ~ why does it exist?
Comment ~ kinda defeats the purpose of a "Quick Reply" :shrug:

oh i am soooo with you on this one MMM,,if you have a convo going in a thread,,plus add in a couple pm's where it's 60 seconds,,you end up spending more time waiting to post your reply than actually typing.

That rule exists simply to keep scum sucking spammers from posting their garbage all over the board. The 30 second rule is even MORE frustrating to them...and they sometimes move on because of it.

But I'll help out a little bit here....effective immediately, it's now 25 seconds.

I'm with you LP! Actually, i'd vote for a longer "waiting" time :D I often don't end up posting anything cause I start typing and by the time i've figured out what i'm saying he conversation has moved on and what I was typing isn't even relevant :o

I'm admin at a board, and we have the 30 second rule there too. If we didn't, spammers (often automated ones) could post up to 100 posts/minute, in multiple forums simultaneously. It's horrible! Manual spammers can copy/paste in multiple tabs, and then have however many 'posts' they want within a minute too. While it's a pain in the butt for regular members who are zooming through, making some quick replies, it's definitely a nightmare for a mod or admin who has to delete all the spam. They'd have to first block the IP or IP range to prevent them from posting more still, ban the profile (in the time these two actions are taken, another bunch of spam posts would have been made), then manually delete all the posts by that spammer and then unban the IP range if it was a range, so that regular members don't get caught in the IP range ban. Too much work, and more than a pain in the butt.

The alternative would be to have to manually approve all new members, rather than having easy registration and instant access.

More than anyone needed to know probably, but having a 30 second posting rule makes it easier for a lot of reasons. And thank you Marko for making it a 25 second delay. :)

I only hate that rule when I am trying to catch up with many people in a convo but otherwise I cant type that fast! :laughing:

I heard the Costco brand (Kirkland) decaf was pretty good. I bought a can of the "real" one (no decaf for me :yuck:) but I haven't tasted it yet.
