Anyone know an affordable place to neuter cats? I've got a 9 month old male cat that needs to be neutered.. I'm in Calgary, Canada.. I had my 4yr old female cat spayed in Vancouver about 3yrs ago and it only cost $50..
Appreciate your help :]

The very excellent MEOW Foundation has a Spay/Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) (http://www.meowfoundation.com/bins/content_page.asp?cid=108) for low-income cat owners.
There is also free speutering available through the Humane Society: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/calgary/story/2009/08/26/calgary-clinic-unwanted-pets-spay-neuter.html

Thanks for the links but the MEOW foundation seems to be temporarily closed, as for the Humane Society, the website says it costs $150.. I don't understand why neutering/spaying is so expensive here =/ The Vet I went to for my female cat was in British Columbia, and it only cost me $50 and the doctor was really great, he had great reputation, something about his clinic was in the paper.. yet he still only charged $50..

That was very cheap for a spay. I know some vets do very low cost for shelters and rescues, but not usually for the average "Joe". $150 is about average here in Ontario for a neuter.

Thanks for quick reply, I think I will contact a bunch of vets and get there rates.. I wouldn't mind spending $100+, but just a couple months ago one of my male cat passed away, and I spend $650 on him with no success, so I don't have much $ at the moment..

Not sure what you mean by "temporarily closed", MEOW is definitely still operating this program. But you do have to qualify as a low-income earner, so perhaps it's not suitable for your situation.
Try calling the McKnight Vet Hospital (http://www.mcknightvethospital.ca/) and see what they charge. I'm sure it'll be more than $50, but from what I've heard they have very competitive rates (and actually work with the MEOW foundation).

I'm not sure where you are located, but the Sunridge Veterenary Clinic (near Sunridge in the NE) has always been very reasonably priced and the veterenarians are very knowledgeable.
When I lived in BC when I was a kid, our cat was also spayed for 25-50 dollars during this spay/neuter blitz.
Good luck in your hunt!

Oops, sorry, :o I didn't see that on the next page. I was recently talking to someone from MEOW (3 weeks ago?) and it was operating then. Hopefully it's up and running again soon.

Good luck! Let us know what you find out. And some pics of your little dude would also be much appreciated here, if you've got some. :D
