hazelrunpack
March 11th, 2010, 11:58 PM
All the preparations were made.

Everyone was all prettied up.
63193

The fans were gathered.
63192

"Alright-already, Mom! Let us outside!
63194
The Hazel Run Winter Olympics are about to start!!!!"

hazelrunpack
March 12th, 2010, 12:03 AM
"All right gang, gather round!!" barked Sheriff Cole.
63195
"The first event will be the first round of Controlled Chaos! Keep it clean! Keep it safe!"

"Let the Games begin in 3..2..1...!"
63196

63197

Eventually, the entire Pack was panting and snorting steam into the cold air. At the end of the first round of Controlled Chaos, both the Sheriff and Grace had put on amazing exhibitions of talent.

hazelrunpack
March 12th, 2010, 12:09 AM
"No time to rest!!" woofed King Ember. "The first round of the Mouse Hunt is next!"

The Mouse Hunt consists of three phases: The Tree Phase, the Fence Phase and the Tank Phase. Day one consists of the Tree and Fence Phases.

"Hellowwww!!!! Any mice in there?"
63198

"Lemme check!" yodeled the King as he demonstrated a nearly perfect Mouse Hunt leap.
63199
"Nope, don't see any! Drat!"

"On to the Fence Phase", barked Sheriff Cole.

hazelrunpack
March 12th, 2010, 12:14 AM
Sheriff Cole led the search along the fence line, displaying the finest of mouse hunting form--arched neck and cocked head.
63200

63201

At the end of Day 1 of the Mouse Hunt, Sheriff Cole and King Ember were tied in the Mouse Hunt competition.

The last event for the Opening Day of the Hazel Run Winter Olympics was the Barking contest.

63203
Grace and Princess~Queen Cass both put on inspired performances, but in the end,
it was the Princess~Queen who walked away with the gold medal!
63205

"I won! I won!"
63204

"Aw, shaddup!" mumbled Grace grumpily.

Day 2 of the Hazel Run Winter Olympics dawned bright and sunny.

The first event was Spittle Bubbles.
63206
King Ember won this contest paws down!

Next up, the finals of the Controlled Chaos event.
Sheriff Cole and Deputy Brier started out strong but were disqualified when they were found to be in the wrong arena.
The day's competition was being held in the Basement Yard and the Sheriff and his Deputy were in the Big Yard.
63207

"I wondered where all the fans were," chuckled Deputy Brier a little sheepishly in a later interview.

hazelrunpack
March 12th, 2010, 12:44 AM
Meanwhile, back in the Basement Yard, the rest of the Pack was putting on an awesome display.
There was controlled chaos EVERYWHERE!!
63208

63209
They leaped, they cavorted, they barked, they attacked!!
63210

And in the end, Grace won her first gold medal of these Olympic Games!

"It was amazing!" she later crowed jubilantly to a reporter.

hazelrunpack
March 12th, 2010, 12:51 AM
Next up, the finals of the Mouse Hunt! This last Phase was a hunt around the LP Tank and everyone was looking forward to it!

Although both the King and the Sheriff put in another strong showing and the Princess~Queen showed flashes of brilliance....
63211

63212

...it was Lady (in Waiting) Ridge who cornered the market in gold in the event with her brilliant display of tenacity and daring.

The final event for Day 2 of the Winter Olympics was Pairs Dance.
Alas, limited lifespan prevents this correspondent from posting EVERY image of the competition. :o
Instead, let's enjoy some of the winning performance:

hazelrunpack
March 12th, 2010, 01:03 AM
The Third and Final Day of competition also dawned sunny!
The conditions were perfect for the hill sport--Leaf Hauler Sledding!

Let's review the winning sled run!

63218
Coach Grace gave Princess Lil Belle an amazing Pep Talk!

"Ready to go, Lil Belle?"
63219
"Yes, I am!"

And she's off!
63220

hazelrunpack
March 12th, 2010, 01:08 AM
63221
"Hmmmm....something seems to be wrong!"

"Maybe if I get out and push it...."
63222

"There! And just jump back in at the bottom...
63223

hazelrunpack
March 12th, 2010, 01:11 AM
"I win!! I win!!"
63224

The final dismount:
63225

And Princess Lil Belle wins the gold medal!!!!

63226
"Tee hee. Lil Belle cheated! Luckily, she was the only participant, so she still won!"

hazelrunpack
March 12th, 2010, 01:17 AM
The Day and the Winter Olympics themselves were rapidly coming to a close.
Only one event left--the Creme de la Creme, the Cat's Meow, the Shining Crown of Events!

The Potty Contest!!

Ms Muddy Mossy Messy Macie started off strong....
63227

...and Lady (in Waiting) Ridge put in a good showing...
63228

...but it was the Dual Excellence of the Sheriff's and the King's Synchronized Peeing that brought down the house!
63229

And the Pack went wild! :highfive: :thumbs up :goodvibes: :pawprint: :dog:

Sorry I sucked you into thinking I was done with that long delay, Jennie. (I was out chasing deer out from under the bird feeders. :frustrated: The dogs start barking--how they know the deer are there is beyond me --and disturb hubby's sleep. :o) But :thankyou:! :D

Thanks, guys, but I can't take the credit. :o As usual, the Pack orchestrated this one. hazel just uploaded the pics and did the typing for them as they dictated :D They would have preferred to do it themselves, but they have so much trouble with the keyboard! :o

They're very glad you enjoyed their celebration of canine sport! :dog:

Hazel I love your stories and pictures. They are just too much. Honestly. How is your search going for an editor or such? Have you sent anything to Readers Digest, maybe they'd print one and get you going??? These are just too good not to share with the world.

:thankyou: for that, MMM! We can never be too careful!!!! :thumbs up

That was hilarious! I can't stop laughing.

Isnt' that just a peculiar shot? I have no idea what the heck Grace thought she was doing there, but she often gets feisty with Ember. :D

Currently, I'm exploring self-publishing. I have everything I need, including a facilitator, but haven't had the time to work on it, yet :o

Ha, ha. Great pics Hazel. The pack looks as beautiful as always. :lovestruck:
Do you still have that much snow there?

clm

hazelrunpack
March 12th, 2010, 05:59 PM
Do you still have that much snow there?

Nope. After four days of rain and above-freezing temps, the yard is pretty smushy and only about 50% snow-covered. There's still a fair amount of ice out there and 6 inches of snow under some of the evergreens.

It's icky. :o

 Your door is so white and clean! How do you manage that with 8 dogs :D?

Love the story...the Hazel Run Winter Olympics were much more entertaining than the real one .

hazelrunpack
March 12th, 2010, 09:04 PM
I had to go back and look for a white door! :o Turned out it was just an optical delusion :D Between the light streaming in through the storm door window and the flash, it camouflaged the dirt, spittle and rust on the doors. Our biggest problem is rust--the outside doors are steel and those wet noses really do a number on them! They're very, very orange in spots on the outside.

I'm glad you enjoyed their little production! (And we didn't even have to build any new facilities! :thumbs up)

Dee-O-Gee
March 12th, 2010, 11:19 PM
Cole & Ember's pairs synchronization top the events but Ember's Spittle Bubbles were truely amazing! :lovestruck:

Hazel--this was thoroughly a pleasure. What an amazing group of athletes! :cloud9:

Just missing one thing................

 I draw the line at poop and puke. :eeew: So you can breather easy! :p

You're still missing one thing though. :( Normally when athletes work hard enough to earn themselves a medal they actually get the medal. So - where are they?:D

hazelrunpack
March 12th, 2010, 11:48 PM
The Pack trains all year round! That way they're ready for the Olympics whether it's a summer or winter event :thumbs up It's that dedication that makes them the truly amazing athletes that they are! :dog: :D

As for Ember's Spittle Bubbles--he's the champ!!! I've been trying to get a clear picture of those bubbles for ages! Who knew they'd be so hard to get a pic of!

hazelrunpack
March 12th, 2010, 11:51 PM
You're still missing one thing though. :( Normally when athletes work hard enough to earn themselves a medal they actually get the medal. So - where are they?:D

 Oh, that!

Totally misunderstood that one! :o  :o

Well...as it turns out...the Olympic committee was a little low on funds for medals, the cost of gold being what it is. So they baked a bunch of dog cookies, drilled holes and hung them on chains. They looked loverly hanging around eveyone's necks...

However, loverly as they were to look at, they were even more delicious to taste!

Turns out that setters are very quick in that regard. By the time of the photo ops after the medal ceremonies, the medals were history... :o

:dog:

March 13th, 2010, 09:29 PM
Sheesh, how have I managed without Setter tales for all this time :p

Ever sooooooooo amazing!! :thumbs up:cloud9::lovestruck:
So many great athletes, so many great moments, so many great photos :lovestruck:

but I have to say, synchronized peeing was truly a "Kodak" moment:thumbs up

:clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:

(so... no photos of the medals ceremonies? podium shots? have you got them trained to raise a paw when the national anthem is played?.. ooops, a bit demanding aren't I :o)

hazelrunpack
March 13th, 2010, 11:06 PM
Actually, they put a paw over their heart for the national anthem. :dog:

Dee-O-Gee
March 14th, 2010, 12:05 AM
Instead of all the athletes receiving bouquets of flowers, did King Ember share some spittles? :)

hazelrunpack
March 14th, 2010, 12:28 AM
They're always sharing spittle! Not only with our sleeves and pant legs, but with each other...and even with the ceiling!

So, yes, Ember shared some spittle! :D

I think that was one of the best winter olympics i have seen.
I also think the syncronized peeing event was the best.
Too bad they ate there medals before the photo ops. :D

hazelrunpack
March 14th, 2010, 11:38 PM
Yeah, they have a tendency to eat their awards. :D They're very food oriented... :dog:

hazelrunpack
March 20th, 2010, 10:44 AM
They have potty contests all the time first thing when they get out. Someone pees, the next one comes over for a sniff and marks the spot, another one wanders over....and eventually you have a brown spot there! They train for the event all the time, but it's hard to get pictures cuz I'm usually pretty busy when they're doing it. The birds had to wait for their seed that morning so I could get some shots of the competition. They didn't mind--this was, after all, an Olympic competition! :thumbs up

Now, when I read that my first thought was YES there is a real important part missing. :frustrated:

WHERE is Cerebrus & Sally??? :yell:

hazelrunpack

Cerberus and Sally are on an extended vacation. :o You wouldn't begrudge them their R&R, would ya, rainbow? :p
