Shark fins and frozen lakes

On the weekend, Abby and Keeper were beachcombing on Barrier lake, with Keeper, below, finding this shark gliding through the frozen water . . . . or maybe that was just a fortuitously shaped piece of driftwood.

. . . . . the ice clean enough for skating if we'd thought about it. Nakiska, site of the alpine events for the 1988 Winter Olympics and a G-8 Summit in about 2003, is down thataway a bit, over the hills and to the left, probably about 15 km.

Later in the day, when we got home, the fog that had been enshrouding Abby and Keeper's home for days had lifted, leaving this hoarfrost encrusted scene for Abby.

Very weird how, on the right hand side part way up the blade of grass there is a rectangular section of white. Funny how that happened.

Is that your house in the background? Does it have a basement? cause in the pic it doesn't look like it does...which must mean the floors get very cold in winter. We have a basement but the floor still is cold in winter time...wish I knew about radiant heat when we renovated 20 eyars ago. LOL

That is our house. It does not have a basement but it does have storage space under a stairwell.

We have in-floor heating and a south facing house with larger windows. It can get quite toasty in there on minus 25 C days. We have air conditioning for the summer.

On the weekend, Abby energetically retreats down a windswept, Marscape slope in the mid-winter, mid-morning light, an ominous snow overhang in the distance . . . . although not so ominious up close.
