I think these cats are incredibly handsome. My favorites for sure!

When looking at oneon Petfinder, the rescue emphasized high maintenance.

I need to calibrate this term with someone...

Do you have sphynx experience, and if so- how high maintenance are these cats?
I have cuddled with several and I am aware of how much heat they need, and how they will crawl into your clothes to get warm :) but I have not looked after one.
Thoughts?

i had a customer many years ago that had a sphynx,,yup they are little heat seekers,,she had to make sure that the kitty stayed warm in the winter, ie sweaters and stuff, and cool in the summer,,cream his skin so he didn't sunburn while laying in a sunbeam. i'm not sure it would be much different than having a chinese crested.this site gives you some more info.

My understanding is that Sphynxs need regular bathing (like weekly?), so I guess that would be a little higher maintanence than your regular kitty.

Yes, and they get wax build up in their ear canals and base of their fingernails.
Additionally, they seem to be prone to pimples on their skin if you are not sensitive to cleaning products.
Also, they do not have eyelashes, so you must wipe their eyes as well.

Some Sphynx also have an oily skin and will leave a spot on furniture if cat lies in same spot, so may have to cover furniture. That's why they have to be bathed fairly often.

Hi,
If you are considering the sphynx for its coat just wanted to mention that if you are a sphynx cat lover that I have had two cornish rexes that were absolutely positively lovely pets; affectionate, loving, devoted, agile. These cats have the down hairs and awn hairs- 2 coats (1 more than the sphynx). NOT sure where your headed with your search at this point, but if you have been dissuaded from the sphynx owing to its "high maintenance"- thought you may wish to consider a Rex. Best of Luck!
