An Abandoned Home......

I took these last week, it was pretty much foggy all week and the hoarfrost was spectacular.
I noticed these when I let the dogs out to pee one day and had to snap a couple shots. If there was no hoarfrost, I would have never known these were there!

Thanks Frenchy, I thought the webs were pretty cool too. I'm just happy there wasn't a frozen spider amongst them....:yuck:

oh my goodness! I wouldn't have thought that hoar frost would stick to such a delicate object and not break it!!!

Very pretty, LMPG! They look like Christmas decorations! :lovestruck:

Pretty pics! But may I ask what hoar frost is?

Hoar frost is formed when fog droplets freeze on an object like tree limbs or, in this case, spider webs.

Spider silk is amazingly strong! Don't you remember Frodo in Shelob's web in Lord of the Rings?  But seriously, it really is strong stuff--like silk moth spinnings--a really amazing material! :thumbs up

I know I was amazed to see the webs were able to hold up under the weight of the frost.

I was going to clean them, but I'm waiting for the next hoarfrost to come along and see if they'll hold up again.

I'll be cleaning them all off when Spring arrives.

At first glance and in the first picture, it almost looked like a strand of Christmas lights without the bulbs! :lightbulb:

I've never seen anything like that before LMPG. So Kewl! :thumbs up

Thank you Hazel. I was beginning to feel a little neglected  so I googled it (which I should have done in the first place). I have never seen hoar frost but it is amazing and cool! (pun intended) :D

Ohhhhh sorry Lodi Girl, somehow I missed it when you asked...I wasn't neglecting you honestly:o

There should be some "snow ghosts" ready for me and my camera tomorrow, a heavy thick fog rolled in again tonight.:D

All is forgiven! I can't wait to see "snow ghosts" (I will google it :D) I live in the very southern tip of Illinois so our winters are not nearly what you "northerners" get. In December 2004 we got 21 inches of snow in one night! That is the most I ever remember in my life and I ain't no spring chicken. I know that is just a drop in the bucket to most of you but it was unusual for us so all this talk about "hoar frost" and "snow ghosts" is very fascinating. :goodvibes:

No "snow ghosts", the temperature didn't drop enough to freeze the fog. I was very disappointed this morning cuz I was hoping to share some with you.
