Introducing an new kitten....or two

Hi , so , we just lost our baby Roo cat a week ago, .....Our other cat Scooter is now all alone,....they were never very close , but did get along, Roos Brother Rusty died in Sept of 08........We don't want to wait to long to get Scooter a buddy....he is all alone , and we feel he needs a buddy.......I just thought one new addition would be good , but my husband thinks two . maybe brothers.....Its just I always felt Scooter was the odd man out..... I don't want him to feel that way or threatned in any way, ,I know any addition is a transition, but not sure what to do , one kitten or two???? and suggestions would be fantastic,

How old is Scooter?

May I suggest, instead of getting a kitten, that you look for an adult cat with a known history of getting along with other cats (say, from a foster situation)? Unless Scooter has been around kittens in the recent past and you know that he's okay with them, it could actually be a bad idea to inflict the rambunctiousness of kittenhood upon him.
