Winston February 2nd, 2010, 11:53 AM So DH just called to ask me for help. DH's coworker is a superintendant for a small apartment building in Oakville. He had some tenants move out late Sunday evening....They decided to TRASH the apartment AND they left the cat behind. :wall: The super went in this morning to find it cowering in a closet! :( So of course he talked to DH and told DH that the landlord said to just open the door and it will solve everyone's problem!! :yell::yell:
He estimates the kitty to be about 6 months old.....:(
So now I am trying to get DH to try and talk this guy into bringing the cat to the Humane Society......WHEN WILL THIS STUPIDITY EVER END!! :(
I keep thinking of the poor kitty alone in the apartment and it is probably scared to death because they most certainly caused alot of damage before leaving and I am sure the cat heard it all! :(:(
Chris21711 February 2nd, 2010, 12:02 PM Winston if you call the OSPCA in your area and report an abandoned cat, they will send an agent to get the cat....it is part of what they do, they do it all the time.
Winston February 2nd, 2010, 12:17 PM Thanks Chris....I just called Oakville Humane Society to see if they will help. They advised me that they can and will help but I need the superintendant to agree to allow them in to get the cat. So DH's coworker just went home to see if the cat is still in the apartment because the landlord may have released it already. If the cat is still there then they told me they will send someone out to get it. Thank goodness! lets just hope its still in the apartment!!
DH tried to get the guy to take some food to the cat but he refused. DH was so pissed off because the cat probably hasnt eaten since sunday and realistically if they didnt care to leave the cat behind who knows when its last meal was!!
Keeping my fingers crossed that the landlord had some compassion for the cat!!
hazelrunpack February 2nd, 2010, 01:33 PM omd, that's awful! I hope the kitty is still there :fingerscr
Winston February 2nd, 2010, 01:52 PM Well DH just called and said that the coworker called the oakville Humane Society and they will be picking up the kitty today. :thumbs up I am so happy! I cant tell you how much of a pleasure it was to deal with the Oakville Humance Society! They answered my call personally..no automated system and they were so very kind. They fully explained to me that they will help as the kitty is an animal in need of protection, that they are a low kill shelter in the sense that they do not euthanize for space only for medical reasons and such! and the best part was that the women on the phone spoke to me with compassion and not in a hurry to just give me info and away I go! she seemed genuinely concerned!
Tonight my prayers go out for the little one in the hopes that he will find a home where he is a part of the family and not just disposed of!
Thanks for listening! You guys rock! your always here when we need to vent!
ancientgirl February 2nd, 2010, 02:49 PM Well, honestly, if they didn't care about trashing the apartment, it doesn't surprise me that they would just leave the poor little kitty there with no food.
I will never understand people. Why did they even bother getting the kitty if they were just going to leave it behind? :wall:
TacoGrl February 2nd, 2010, 03:31 PM I am glad too that all worked out in getting the kitty rescued :thumbs up
People are getting scarier these days...I would prefer to just live in my own little reality...grinning...petting my kittehs! :cloud9:

Winston February 2nd, 2010, 07:29 PM Thanks guys! we are just keeping our fingers crossed that they pick the kitty up before the landlord comes by because this fellow is 100% sure he will let it out. I will know more tomorrow hopefully!

Kay9 February 2nd, 2010, 07:43 PM I don't know who I want to hurt more--the tenants or that idiot landlord.
Winston February 2nd, 2010, 08:43 PM Or the idiot that told us! he refused to take a can of cat food over when he checked on his lunch because he didnt want a cat eating out of his dishes! :wall: DH called him a goof and tried to talk him into just leaving the can but he wouldnt! But I know that if they picked him up today he has surely eaten by now!
Frenchy February 2nd, 2010, 08:45 PM This happens every year in Quebec ... on July first , when everybody moves :frustrated:
If he's only 6 months old , he has more chances of getting adopted :goodvibes:
Winston February 2nd, 2010, 08:52 PM The girl on the phone assured me that they only euthanise the sick or really agressive ferels that are unadoptable. She seemed very positive that he could find a home...except I worry about the fact the he is a black kitty but you never know...he may just steal someone;s heart at the shelter!!
Frenchy that is so horribly sad that our society deems this behaviour as acceptable..???????

Yep , it's 2010 and we're still dealing with this :wall:
And people should know , black kitties are awesome ! Most of them are very friendly and cuddly (like my Paddington) maybe it's to make people understand that they shouldn't judge by colors ;)
Stinkycat February 3rd, 2010, 02:41 PM I know a couple that are full grown adults with children and they mistreat animals like crazy, it breaks my heart to see people do this, it only takes a simple phone call.
The people I know did want their cat anymore so they drove it out to the woods and opened the door!:(
Another time happened was some people drove through a street, opened their door and dropped the cat off. My friends mom saw this, and went out and got the cat and brought her in. Turned out the cat was pregnant. Well the mom has a great life! Free run of their entire farm, the kittens were born healthy, Stinky (my cat) I got from her, which he's a healthy 6 years old now.

WTF????
What would it take for these stupid idiots to get in the car, drive the same distance (or shorter) and go the their local humane society? I swear there should be jail time for people like that.
