Eureka Capture

So my boss let me use the company card to get myself a vacuum cleaner. I can't afford a dyson, so I looked around and read lots of good reviews for the Eureka capture.

:eek:I had to empty the canister 3 times! I vacuumed the two rugs downstairs and I can't even tell you how much cat hair it picked up. The black border on the one rug actually looks black now and not gray. The stairs, the smaller rugs upstairs. Yikes! I can't believe how much hair this thing picked up!

I think if I vacuum 2 times a week it will certainly help a lot with my allergies and I'm sure the gang will appreciate the cleaner air too.

AG, I'm in need of new vacuum and was looking at the dyson, but the price is just ridiculous. I noticed Canadian Tire had a "dyson clone" that occasionally goes on sale and was thinking about getting that next time they flyer shows it on sale, but I never heard of the Eureka capture. Is it an upright? What is the price range on it if you don't mind my asking? It sounds like it is effective. Are the filters washable or do you have to replace them. My current vacuum, the filters cost almost as much as the vacuum itself!

Yes, the Dyson is just way out of my price range. Here's some info on my new one: Eureka Capture (http://www.eureka.com/index.php?option=com_productdisplay&view=productdisplay&task=getproducts&productid=18&product_model=8802AVZ)

It has a Hepa filter, that it says your can change every 6 months, but I'd have to change it sooner I think. It's an upright canister vac. It doesn't work great on regular floors, but that's fine with me, I bought it for the rugs mainly.

I managed to get it on clearance at Sears for $124. The most I've seen it advertised is $179.

Oh, it even has this little duster thing, that you put in it's little holder and the vacuum cleans it out.

AG congrats on the new vac,,,one little cleaning tip from one allergy sufferer to another. When you're going to vac, lightly mist the carpet using a spray bottle with water, it makes the hairs stick to each other and makes it easier for the vac to pic them up and you get more of it.:thumbs up

Oh, I'm going to do that next time. I was so shocked at the amount of hair I got up from the rugs. I can't believe we've all been living with that!

with the double double (2 cats, 2 dogs) in my household... i needed a good vac too! went to canadian tire on my mom's recommendation (she had a lot of carpet and a golden) with the bissel healthy home... wow.... its great. Bagless, works like a charm. It is a little heavy.. but CT always has sales, so i watched and got it for a good price.
I also use the arm n hammer soda based products... gives a nice smell... and if the smell bothers... just sprinkle a little baking soda.. find it helps with the hair!

When I was doing my research, the Bissel and the Capture both had really good reviews, but I liked the little extra feature of the dust wand the Capture has. It's cool, you dust with it, then put it in it's own chamber and the vacuum sucks out the dirt and cleans it.

I'm still shocked at the amount of cat heir it got from the two rugs.

L4H, yeah, it doesn't do my asthma much good either. I have to say though, the "feeling" in the air last night was different. Maybe it was just my imagination, but I felt a lot better. I'm going to make a concerted effort to vacuum 2 or 3 times a week, every other day if need be. I know the more I do it, the more I can get all the hair out of the rugs and furniture I didn't get last night.

:laughing:I never thought I'd be so happy to vacuum in my life!
