My friend wants to know if it's true that female dog urine causes brown spots in the lawn and that male urine does not? Weird question huh?

question for a friendmitchi236 August 26th, 2004, 01:12 PM My friend wants to know if it's true that female dog urine causes brown spots in the lawn and that male urine does not? Weird question huh? Michelle :) GsdDiamond August 26th, 2004, 01:28 PM I don't know about a male dog's urine, but my lawn's not been the same since my little girl arrived and started watering it! In the pet webpages, take a look at Diamond's pic....see the "nice" looking lawn....HER FAULT! :D alpha sheltie August 26th, 2004, 02:01 PM Nope! A male's urine makes brown spots in the grass as well. I've got two males so I'm positive on this. :p SSAC August 26th, 2004, 02:41 PM as far as I know, it's the ammonia in the urine that burns the lawn. happydogs August 26th, 2004, 03:18 PM I was of the assumption as well that a males urine would not burn the grass, when we just had the one boy, it seemed to be true, but now we have two boys and a lot of miniature crop circles!! Interestingly once the grass greens up in the area again it is really green! :p GsdDiamond August 26th, 2004, 03:27 PM miniature crop circles!! Funny....I thought the exact same thing yesterday!!! :D Spoiled August 26th, 2004, 09:20 PM I have heard the same thing, but other people told me it was the opposite. Well, I think male dogs make worse spots, but I guess it would depend on the dog. Kona Dawg August 26th, 2004, 09:26 PM Male dog's definately turn the grass un-green, and "crop circles" definately describes the result aptly. Infact I find that males make larger spots as they tend to splatter more than a female who just squats and goes in one area. glasslass August 27th, 2004, 12:01 AM Actually, every morning Den-Den runs two steps off the patio and then squats. Always the same spot, not in different spots. GsdDiamond August 27th, 2004, 08:11 AM Actually, every morning Den-Den runs two steps off the patio and then squats. Always the same spot, not in different spots. You're so lucky! We tried giving Diamond a set "pee area" but we're just happy now that she's not going indoors. Her poops, however, she likes to do in the far corner of the yard. WOO HOO! debanneball August 27th, 2004, 08:17 AM Well, I just learned something new. :D I always thought the male urine was okay for lawns, but I definitely know that female urine kills lawns. My back yard looks like polkadots. So needless to say, I didn't water the lawn once this summer. I often thought of making it a 'forest', then I would never see the lawn or the spots. Charli246 August 27th, 2004, 09:11 AM I think it "seems" like only female urine causes brown patches because females tend to pee all at once, so there's a larger amount deposited in one spot. Whereas male urine is just as toxic, but they tend to spot everything so it's scattered around more. This of course varies from dog to dog. debanneball August 27th, 2004, 01:58 PM Good point, I guess trees would look funny if they too were polkadotted :D |
