Frenchy December 6th, 2009, 07:17 PM She is so sweet and gentle. She has spent a nice part of the evening sleeping on my lap, on the couch. I love cuddly dogs! She was really excited to meet my children. she must be glad to settle down for a bit :cloud9: Macomom December 6th, 2009, 07:20 PM Frenchy, I wonder what goes through their minds when they bump around from different homes? Dogs are so sweet and trusting  Frenchy December 6th, 2009, 07:24 PM Frenchy, I wonder what goes through their minds when they bump around from different homes? Dogs are so sweet and trusting  I think they know when they're with kind people. They get to your home and sleep , which means they totally trust you and let their guards down , catch up on their rest :p I always talk a lot to them on the drive to my house. I explain things to them :o I tell them that I'm a foster mom , and that everything will be ok from now on. That we will find them the best family ever. I also tell them that they MUST be nice to my dogs and cats  Macomom December 6th, 2009, 07:28 PM I do the same thing :) Glad to know we are considered loving. I thought for a minute that we were just really really boring. :D Melinda December 6th, 2009, 07:31 PM whats her story?? Spatx December 6th, 2009, 07:33 PM What a sweetheart! :cloud9: Macomom December 6th, 2009, 07:33 PM Students from China bought her from a pet store. They have finished school and have gone home, without a dog. Spatx December 6th, 2009, 07:41 PM Students from China bought her from a pet store. They have finished school and have gone home, without a dog. I met someone last week who tried to pawn me their dog before they left for China in a few weeks. I gave her my contact info so she could reach me at a better time... never heard from her. I'm assuming she sold her dog to some other random person off the street. ancientgirl December 6th, 2009, 07:47 PM She's a beauty. What a shiny coat. hazelrunpack December 6th, 2009, 08:55 PM Oh, she's gorgeous! Love the intensity of her colors :flirt: What a lucky girl to have found help when she needed it... growler~GateKeeper December 6th, 2009, 10:44 PM Awww Poko is a cutie pie :cloud9: Dee-O-Gee December 6th, 2009, 10:47 PM OMG...she is georgous! :lovestruck: Does she have the traditional loud AAAAWWRRRR, AAAWWRRR hound bark? They're barks are so sweet! :cloud9: Macomom December 7th, 2009, 06:46 AM klmccallum, lol. I don't know yet. She is pretty laid back so no barking at all! She just kind of goes with the flow here :D Melinda December 7th, 2009, 07:15 AM is her front paw really turned out? or is it just the way the pic was taken? Macomom December 7th, 2009, 09:05 AM Hi Melinda, Mostly it is the way the picture was taken, but she does have a twisted leg. Poor genetics, possible puppy mill/pet shop breeding. Chris21711 December 7th, 2009, 09:20 AM She is a beauty Macomom :lovestruck:...What do the rest of the guys think of her? A lot of Bassets have bowed front legs, unfortunately some more than others. Macomom December 7th, 2009, 09:31 AM The children, in particular, adore her. She is gentle and unassuming, doesn't jump and generally has good manners. They like her size, and the fact that she doesn't steal Lego from them. Her ears and muzzle are like velvet, so they think she is very pretty. My Rottie, Darby, tries to engage her to play, and a bit too roughly at that. Poko just walks away and goes to hide behind an adult. Boswell thinks she is fine and is not bothered by her at all, and Harvey who I was worried about, is just pouting in his kennel. He doesn't really care, I think because she is a gentle, submissive girl and no challenge to him. His nose is out of joint though, because she cuddled up with me on the couch last night. This morning he wouldn't get out of his kennel until I brought him a piece of cheese! She curled up and slept on my couch last night in a perfect circle. She makes herself so small, that I almost could not find her :D Chris21711 December 7th, 2009, 10:17 AM She sounds beautiful Macomom, I'm pretty sure she will play once she gets more comfortable and secure...from my experience with Bassets they mouth alot and groan when they are playing, sometimes Reb and Skip just lay on the floor mouthing and groaning at each other :cloud9: How much does she weigh...she is tall in the hind legs, watch she doesn't start counter surfing ...Skippy does if he gets a chance  Macomom December 7th, 2009, 10:28 AM Haha Chris, she got part of my breakfast this morning! Chris21711 December 7th, 2009, 10:39 AM She swiped it from where?....They have a code that must be strictly adhered to you know  Macomom December 7th, 2009, 10:41 AM From the counter... She is kind of like that slinky dog in Toy Story- you have no idea she is so tall, until she unwinds and *whammo* your breakfast is gone from the counter. I had no idea she could get up that high! Chris21711 December 7th, 2009, 11:02 AM Skippy's first day here, he swiped a whole trout off of the counter....Pepe ate dirt that night ......I guess I should have told you beforehand but you probably would have thought "nah, not with those short legs" Macomom December 7th, 2009, 11:55 AM Yes Chris, you are probably right. It is also amazing how small they can get when they are curled up to sleep.. Very cute breed indeed :) Do they have any other super canine powers I should know of? X-Ray vision, the ability to fly with those long ears... it would be cruel to hold back now! ownedbycats December 7th, 2009, 12:28 PM Before you get too upset at the students, they may have had every intention of keeping her originally, but parts of China have recently instituted a 1 dog policy. Any dog over that limit is confiscated and put to sleep. It was in the Globe and Mail a while ago, maybe a month or so? Chris21711 December 7th, 2009, 12:34 PM Before you get too upset at the students I didn't notice anyone on this thread getting upset with the students.... they may have had every intention of keeping her originally, but parts of China have recently instituted a 1 dog policy. That being said, then they should not have got her imo. Macomom December 7th, 2009, 12:50 PM I also don't think anyone has expressed any anger with the students. It is what it is. Melinda December 7th, 2009, 02:45 PM hey, at least they had the goodness not to just dump her on the street Macomom December 7th, 2009, 02:50 PM You are right, Melinda :) Chris21711 December 8th, 2009, 10:19 AM How is Poko doing today?.... They can be quite stubborn, Reb and Skip kinda pretend you are not talking to them when asked/told to do/not to do something  Macomom December 8th, 2009, 10:31 AM Hey Chris, At about 3:30 am this morning Poko got lonely. We only realized this after getting up and taking all four doggers out to pee. She stopped whining when I opened the door to my son's room. She went right in and cuddled up politely on the foot of this bed. She slept soundly until morning. I think she is just scared and a bit sad, so she wants company. We went for a lovely walk last night and I got to see her run through the snow with my other dogs. It was really cute. She doesn't stray too far when we are off least. Just keeps her nose to the ground and does her own thing :) I am impressed with the calm, gentle nature I have seen so far.
