Been awhile...

I haven't been around in a few weeks, I know I promised pics of the new house and such, but due to pressing circumstances I haven't had a chance.
Infact this is the first time I've been on a computer since my last post.
Our middle son, has developed some serious health issues, which has affected his heart. He will be 21 in a couple weeks. We have been to several doctors, 2 heart specialists and we have another appointment with yet another specialist next week.
To compound the problem, we found out our son has become addicted to those energy drinks ie: Red Bull and such. He never drank them at home, so we had no idea. Being in construction, and not one for bagging a lunch, he would pick up Red Bulls on the way to the job sites. He was drinking 8-10 of these a day! Well, this could very well be the reason for his heart problems.
The doctor told us he has seen several young ppl come in who have done serious damage to their hearts, kidneys and livers by excessive drinking of energy drinks. There is a history of heart disease in my family, my Nan had two open heart surgeries by the time she 34 yrs old, one of my uncles passed away at the age of 39 due to heart disease and another uncle had suffered half a dozen heart attacks by the age of 47. So with genetics at play, and abusing energy drinks, it has created a serious issue.
We haven't had much time to enjoy the new house or our new community. I am stressed all the time, worried sick about what is going to happen. I cry myself to sleep almost every night. I am scared, scared to death actually. He has these attacks where he literally loses his color, clutches his chest, and has even passed out on occassion, one time giving himself a huge goose egg on his forehead hitting the concrete floor in the basement. His blood pressure is too high, and his blood is too thick. I am so afraid I will lose him before we get to a definate diagnosis and something is done to correct it.
He told his boss, and as a favor and out of concern they laid him off at his request. He pretty much stays quiet stretching out on his recliner watching movies or laying in bed. His energy is low, he has very little appetite and has major mood swings. If he gets upset or angry, or exerts himself, he ends up clutching his chest in pain, goes extremely pale and has a hard time breathing. It's terrifying to watch.
So anyway, sorry for venting, but that is why I haven't been around and why I haven't gotten around to posting the pics of the new place and the dogs like I promised I would.
I will eventually, Dog knows I could use some decorating advice too! But my priority is my son right now.
Also, while I'm here, I may as well tell you that Abby gave us quite the scare. She developed a yeast infection again, well we have concluded that the Costco Kirkland cookies are the culprit. She has an allergy to them. Took her to the vet and had her checked out, and also asked for a dental work up on her as well as a complete blood panel. So he gave us special soap and ointment for her yeast infection, which was worst on her feet. The blood panel came back saying that there was something (sorry I can't remember the term he used) that was highly elevated, which could be a sign of a genetic kidney disease. He told me not to get too concerned because apparently he has seen this in a lot of Pits that are on the very muscular side. He felt it worthy of further investigation and of course so did we. So we had to go back for a urine test, which thankfully came back clear of signs for kidney disease. She does however have a slight urine infection, which he gave us antibiotics for. She had a complete dental cleaning, and now she has beautiful sparkling teeth. Anyway 700+ dollars later (my vet is awesome gave me a huge discount of the dental work and blood panel) but still a good chunk of change (had to dip into son's wheelchair fund...again:sad:). Anyway she's a happy Pitty again.
So basically that's all to report for now, I'm so tired so I apologize if I rambled on. I do that when I'm overly tired:o
Anyway, I hope all is well with everyone and of course all the furry babies.
Hope you all have a fun and safe Halloween tomorrow (actually I guess tonight).
Take care for now, talk to ya's soon...I hope.

I know a lot of those so called energy drinks have an indredient called ?guarna? which turns out ot be just another derivitive of a so called health food supplement banned from the market a few years ago due to sudden deaths of many young people, especially those in sports activities. I am sorry, but I cannot remember the name of the drug itself. but until food and drugapproval agencies include all forms of a banned substance on their lists, these thngs are going to be around.:frustrated:
I am so sorry about your son. Do the doctors think he may have permenent damage or perhaps staying away from the toxin may have some improvement.
I am sure these companies that manufacture the energy drinks know that just because they put "warning labels" on the can NOT TO consume more than 1 or 2 cans in 24 hours, it is just to protect themselves, Young people do not read or pay attention to labels. :yell:
Good thoughtsto you and your family

LMPG,I am so sorry,I know the worry about heartproblems:sad:

There was a program from France(TV5) about these energy-drinks and it was scary, they should definitely be banned.
The Austrian man who concocted these is a billionaire, but even after kids dying, the total ingredients are still hush-hush.
One place where the drinks are produced is protected like the Pentagon.

LMPG,:pray:your son will come through this ok:pray:

Thank you for the well wishes and kind words.
We don't know if there will be permanent heart damage yet. But every single doctor we've seen has lectured him about the dangers of these energy drinks.
He hasn't had one for awhile, and I swear he has had withdrawl symptoms.
He never read the labels, like most kids, and I can't believe how these companies get away with marketing this crap to young ppl. I recently found out, that they give this stuff away at concerts that are geared at younger ppl!
Also, my son told me there is a drink where you use some form of alcohol where a shot of energy drink is dropped in, apparently this is very dangerous too, and he and his buddies would order these at the bar once and awhile.
It's scary stuff, and I personally wish they'd pull this stuff from store shelves, my doctor has told me that he is seeing more and more young ppl from highschool students to ppl in their mid 20's coming in with issues from consuming too many of these energy drinks.
Anyway, I hope that whatever is going on with his heart that we are able to get things under control, I know he is as scared as I am, which unfortunately I have to say is a good thing, because he won't even think about touching that crap again.
Again, thank you so much for your good vibes and well wishes.

I'm sorry to hear of your sons' heart troubles as well as the energy drink issue :grouphug: :goodvibes: for answers soon so you can start on treatments

That would be Creatinine. Happy to hear her kidneys are good :thumbs up

Thank you, I couldn't remember the word he used. I'm just glad her kidneys are good, cuz she's still very much a puppy and the thought of possibly losing her at such a young age broke my heart, of course just the thought of losing her at any point breaks my heart.
She's on some kind of antibiotic, and it's making her vomit. So I've stopped giving it to her and will call the vet tomorrow to see if there's something else he can give us.
Just got back from WalMart, went to get Christmas lights and decided this was the year I would switch over to LED lights. Anyway, when I got home Abby made a beeline under the diningroom table. That's a sure sign that she has done something that she knows is unacceptable! Yep, she sure did, I found one of my favorite boots (burgundy leather ones), chewed almost beyond recognition!:frustrated: I don't know how she opened the closet, it was closed when I left:frustrated:
She gave me this "I'm sorry Mom" look, and of course I melted, gave her a hug and reassured her I wasn't gonna do anything to her, and threw away my favorite boots.
She hasn't chewed anything in so long, guess she was p*ssed off that I didn't take her along for the car ride.

I'm so sorry to hear about your recent trouble LMPG, but am glad to see you back here and posting again.

I have to admit I used energy drinks a lot in college, and even from time to time now. Being an Addictions Counsellor I really should know better. Hearing about your son will definately make me stop and think next time I consider having one.

Hope you can post some pictures of your new house and your beautiful puppers soon :)

Thank you Chaser, I'm glad to be around once again too, I missed this site and the ppl.

I will post pics as soon as I can. Son has a follow up appt with the doc on Thursday. He says he's feeling a bit better, but still has chest pains quite frequently, which is why I don't think the only issue is the energy drinks. I think it could be a huge contributing factor but I do believe there is something else at work here. We'll have to wait and see, and that's the tough part.
