This is a very simple, yet fun, way to get to know each other :) You simply share a secret about yourself! It can be lighthearted, deep and dark, whatever, as long as it is honest and truthful ;) There will be no flaming or insults here, as we are all friends here :grouphug: I will start off!

My secret is: I am an ordained minister, as is my husband and brother ;)

Three years ago I was going through a very bad breakdown. It got so bad that I had decided to kill myself. That scared the crap out of me and I asked for help. Funnily, the Psychologist told me that all I needed to do was get a hobby and all my problems would disappear :wall:

I think TwinTails hobby she took up is starting threads here to try stump us. Not gonna work though. My secret is I have a 31 year old son from a one night stand and wouldn't change a thing about it. My boy is the best thing that ever happened to me! Not proud of the one night stand thing, but hey, didn't kill me but it definitely made me stronger. Raised my boy alone and did a fine job of it too.

I saw a UFO on our family farm when I was 16 years old. It was landed on the ground and was all lit up with yellow lights and shaped like a classic flying saucer. I heard mechanical beeping sounds like maybe they were testing something. Then it silently rose straight up in the air and zoomed away.

mikischo
November 4th, 2009, 05:28 PM
My BF also saw a UFO on his family farm when he was a teenager about a year after I saw mine. His experience took place in Saskatchewan and mine in Manitoba. We didn't meet till over 25 years later. The UFO he saw was a different shape and had multi-coloured lights. He and two friends were driving a truck through the field when the UFO started hovering above them. The motor on the truck went dead and they couldn't start it so they got out and hightailed it to the farmhouse which was about 3/4 of a mile away. He told me about his experience before I told him about mine and I totally believe him. I also confirmed it with one of his friends who had been there.

mikischo
November 4th, 2009, 06:12 PM
One more thing that I wasn't sure if I would mention because it is kind of bizarre. My BF and his friends also saw a really huge black panther-like creature running along the bush line at the same time as they witnessed the UFO.

TwinTails
November 4th, 2009, 06:28 PM
That is pretty awesome :D

I've beenin contact lately with many members of family that have passed away many many years ago. I've been able to describe people I've never seen photos of (on Gary's side), and relay messages to them. I've had Gary's dad use me to hug him and to pass on messages. Very unique and such an odd feeling!

I'm afraid of wind storms :o
Last night was horrible, the Chinook winds were blowing really hard here in High River.
On top of Mt. Norquay, (one of my favorite ski hills), the wind was clocked at 170km per hour last night.
Here in High River, they must've been gusting 70-90 kms/hr or more at times.
I didn't get much sleep:sad:

I am afraid of glossy spiders. Not the hairy ones! I used to be terrified of all spiders, but I had to keep several tarantulas alive and since then, I have a better understanding of them. However, living in a desert area, glossy spiders die, regardless of what they are (just in case they are widows)! I also have no fear of cockroaches (yup, had a dozen biggies as "pets").

Not instantaneously famous, LP. I think I'll end up marketing locally at dog events (the dog show, maybe sell a few through the pet supply stores and/or the local doggy day care) and see how it goes. Some of the local bookstores might be willing to help me by offering story time/book signing opportunities...which means I'm going to have to overcome my discomfort around kids. :o

But it's a start, maybe. :o I have to see what this publisher thinks of the books, first.

Ok this is hard for me to admit, but I'm gonna share a secret with you that I don't think I've shared with anyone before.....

I have a fetish for the smell of new rubber boots :o...I am totally serious, when I go to Canadian Tire or Walmart or anywhere that sells rubber boots, I pick them up, look around to make sure nobody's looking and I shove my face into them and inhale the rubbery aroma:o Doesn't matter if it little boots, big boots or hip waders, I can't get enough of that rubbery odor.:o

I bought a pair once and kept them tied tightly in a bag hoping to preserve the new rubbery smell, and I'd sneak into the garage to get my fix, but unfortunately the new rubbery smell evaporated quickly.

I am a total wreck in a tire store, nowhere to hide and the temptation is too much, I'll walk around sniffing hard, as if I have a cold, to get a wiff of the new rubber smell, when all I wanna do is bury my face in a tire and overdose on the smell :o

Yes I know I'm twisted

BenMax, I do the same thing when I'm anxious, or stressed. I went to see a doctor who told me it's a form of OCD. I also check things constantly, for example, I lock my door, I know it's locked but I have to go check it several times just to make sure.
Or I know I put the margarine away, but I go to the fridge and check a few times just to make sure.
For the most part I've been able to get it under control, but I like I said when I'm anxious, stressed or upset I don't have as much control over it.

I remember a time I was taking the kids to the lake for the day, I locked the front door and ended up driving around the block a few times and going back to check. My poor kids, they would get so frustrated. It was at their urging that I finally went to see someone about it.

I wish I had your "youthhood", it wasn't that I wanted to be a "good girl", or a "bad girl", just where I lived didn't offer the opportunity to "have more fun".
Not to mention I just wasn't that interested in the "activity" itself. Never have been to be honest....if libido was tracked on a scale of 1-10, I'd be -15.

I will admit at times I wondered what it would have been like to be a "bad girl", I was sometimes envious of my girlfriends that were "wild and crazy", that could let their inhabitions go without regret and just enjoy their lives.
That being said however, I am very happy with the decisions I made, and wouldn't change a thing :D......(well except for the time I decided to get a mohawk...yeah...that's a decision I still regret )

After my Nanny died, I developed a condition, there's a medical term but I can't remember what it's called, where I would pull my hair out. I had big bald patches on my head. At one point I had no eyebrows, no eyelashes and almost plucked my head to the point where I looked like Fozzy bear from the muppets. :o
I was placed on an meds and had to drink warm oj with gelatin mixed in to stimulate and help my hair grow back.:o

One of my roommates used to do that with her eyebrows. When it was exam time or some other stress was going on, pickpickpick until her forehead was bald.
Negative emotions. For many people with trichotillomania, hair pulling is a way of dealing with negative or uncomfortable feelings, such as stress, anxiety, tension, loneliness, fatigue or frustration. People who have trichotillomania may also have other emotional disorders, including depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder or eating disorders.
I took this from that site, I think mine was the devestation of losing my Nan, amongst other things.
I don't pluck myself bald anymore, but at times I do catch myself tugging at a strand or two, and usually when I'm really stressed out, tired, having an anxiety attack.
My hubby catches me at times too, and stops me. Honestly it's a sub concious thing, I don't feel it and sometimes don't realize it until I've pulled out a strand and it's in my hand.

I have Borderline Personality Disorder (http://www.psychnet-uk.com/clinical_psychology/criteria_personality_borderline.htm). Makes life, erm, interesting! My psychiatrist told me the best way to "get over it" was to take up a hobby

Hehe, that's why hubby and I laughed at him! My hobbies already include: crochet, sewing, plastic canvas, x-stitch, painting, drawing, card making, scrapbooking, digital scrapbooking, PSP/Photoshop, origami, beading, jewelry making, clay work, dotee dolls, postcard (making and trading), ATCs, Inchies, bookmarks (making and trading), pen palling, writing, photography, making dolls, making stuffed animals, making clothes for dolls and pets, playing online games (WoW), playing board games (cards, CSI, Harry Potter, chess, Rummy-O, etc), nature walks, fishing, biking, etc. I have enough hobbies to keep me going for the rest of my life, roflmao!

Although I really want to learn to crochet well enough to make Amigurami (I think? The little animals). I have hundreds of patterns for them, just don't know how to read the instructions ;)

My hobbies include, playing guitar, reading, writing, drawing, cooking, walking, mountain biking, hiking, photography, collecting glass birds. I am just starting to get into scrapbooking...thanks to a fellow member on here who sparked my interest with her beautiful cat pages...I have purchased some cardstock paper, embellishments, stickers and such, I did buy a scrapbook album, but somehow lost it during the move  So I have asked "Santa" to bring me a couple for Christmas. I look forward to really getting into it.

Digital scrapbooking isn't very hard, you do need to learn the basics of Paint Shop Pro (or photoshop, but PS is more advanced than PSP). I can find some tutorials for you to try (if you like, PM me your email address and I will send you the full version of PSP X2 Ultimate and some scrapkits).

I always seem to get on here when everyone is gone. Dang. My secret is that I used to be a "cat person" but now have switched to being a "dog person". :dog: AND, I was quite the "fun-loving" girl twenty years or so ago. AND, I can't go in the bathroom unless the light is on. There you go, three for the price of one!

hazelrunpack

I have to turn the light on in the bathroom, too--the better to avoid the tripping hazard that is the Pack of dogs that wants to follow me in there! Think it's part of being a dog person, MLG? :D Did you turn it on when you were a cat person?

pbpatti

I am a dog person who thinks she is hiding a cat lady inside. I really do like kittys but have never had one of my own.

hazelrunpack

I love kitties, too. :cloud9: If I could have kept Mr Kitty when he strayed into the yard, I would have jumped at the chance. The Pack, on the other hand, has a prey drive that kicks in for anything cat sized (although not mouse sized ). Sigh...so I'm going to have to wait a while to get my kitty... :o

What do you think Sasha would do with a kitty, pbp?

pbpatti
November 14th, 2009, 11:06 PM
Sasha has been around cats and pretty much ignores them. My GF (Scooters) mom has 4 cats and Sasha sniffs at them or ignores them completely. I think she would be ok with a cat sister or brother.

:laughing: I have to turn the light on because of a story I heard when I was a kid. If you go in the bathroom with the lights out and say "Mary Worth" three times while looking in the mirror, she will appear and scratch your cheeks. It still creeps me out.
