why i haven't been around as much :(

September 28th, 2009, 12:30 PM
hey everyone just wanted to pop in to say hi and hugs to everyone. and to give an update of why i suddenly wasn't on very much lately.

some of you know that my husband was told his kidneys weren't doing so well. well basically we got blood work done at the end of august. His primary dr sent us to a kidney specialist because his levels were really high. since going to this specialist and many dr visit later she says that his kidneys are failing but doesn't know why. these are his symptoms so far.

High protein in his urine
his legs are swelling below the knee
the glands around his thyroid are over working
his potassium is high
his blood pressure is still really high

other then that he's ok we are both pretty stressed.

we are going to the hospital tomorrow for a biopsy. basically they are going to take tissue from his kidneys and send it out for testing. the dr thinks eventually he will need a kidney transplant and/or dialysis. she isn't sure if what ever is wrong is reversible.

send prayers and well wishes our way tomorrow we'll need them. i'll keep you updated as soon as i can. he'll be over night at the hospital so i should be able to update on wednesday.

hope everyone is having a better month!

Prayers for you and hubby !!

I have only one kidney and I'm also diabetic which can take it's toll on the kidneys so I have to be very very careful. This hits close to home.

You're in Connecticut? There are plenty of fantastic medical facilities in Hartford. I'm in NJ and I go to a doctor in Boston. Well worth the drive! Actually my oncologist i is Boston but he works out of Dana Farber Cancer Institute and they're affiliated with Brigham Women's Hospital. I go there for any serious medical issue.

Has he been tested for metal toxicity? I've been doing some reading about that and it can be the cause of many medical problems that don't seem to have an easily identifiable source.

Keep us posted. I hope you have good news in the near future !

thank you everyone for the well wishes and hugs. makes me cry all over again!

the biopsy went well. we had a few problems but they were taken care of for the most part. he is home today relaxing. he is to do nothing but sit or stand. lol he can't bend lift push. I'm going to have fun for two weeks :D.

I'm in better spirits now that this part is over. still worried about the results which we get next Tuesday. but trying to keep a positive frame of mind. i think you guys will help with that :cloud9:

joeysmama i don't think he's been tested for metal toxicity. but i'll bring it up if for some reason the biopsy doesn't give any answers.

thanks again everyone your all the best!!! :lovestruck: :grouphug::grouphug::goodvibes:

ps the kitties say hi. i promise to post new pics when i can

Sending prayers up for hubby. Hope the results come back good!

Is your hubby overweight? I was watching Dr. oz a couple of days ago and he says having a big belly can put a lot of stress on the kidneys.
