So Discouraging (Semi-Rant)

I check our local Kijiji every day, in case there is something I need or someone I can help (esp. with animals). I checked today and as of this morning there were approximately 1000 puppies for sale in this city alone :( This doesn't include the surrounding areas :( only about 1% of the puppies are listed as CKC registered and applications were required. Then there were BYBs of "purebred" non-registered pups (most parents are only 10 months old). The bulk were "rare" "extoic" "designer" mixes. All were a minimum of $500 each, but many mixes were over $1000  They range from 90% being small breeds, but others are large mixes that make no sense :(

Then you get the stud dogs. I've emailed 15 of the ads, asking for information regarding the pedigree, championships, OFA & CERF clearances, etc. Every replied that they just had a really sweet pet store puppy that has a great temperment. Each one required a $500-$1200 stud fee. Most of them were less than a year old and had already sired "5 litters with super sweet and adorable puppies".

This is disgusting :wall:  :frustrated: :yell: And infurriating! Our local SPCA can only take in 10 dogs at any given time (they are so small), the pound takes in only strays and dogs slated for euthy. The Humane Society is overflowing with special needs dogs and is all volunteer run (e.g. the homes of the volunteers, no building). It's so rare for people here to actually adopt a needy pet, they would rather buy from a pet store (3 of the 4 sell BYB & PM pups) or from Kijiji.

How are all the truly needy dogs going to find homes? Every week there are new "breeders" looking to make a buck.

Thankfully my entire family and extended family & friends know me by now, and all adopt truly needy dogs.

I feel so angry at these people who continue to sell these babies  If only they could see what they are doing to these animals, the harm they do.

Ok, I am done ranting and raving for now. Thank you for letting me get this off my chest, I know my friends here can understand what I feel :lovestruck:

Ugh, that is what I get too :wall: Now I will just have to stay away from that section, only look for the things I need (like shelves and things, lol).

I'm assuming that Kijiji is the Candian version of Craigslist (community members post want ads on line)?

I'm reading some of the pet ones right now. It's absolutely heartbreaking.

"looking for a great and loving home for a small chiuhaha pameranian mix she is only 5 mnths old and loves kids has been de-wormed but needs puppy shots and parvo shots have been informed by vet it should only cost 20-30 dollars for puppy and parvo shots all together needs a little training but is a great all around dog." Poor thing. No parvo shots, probably no distemper or rabies shots...

"We still have some animals left that we need to get rid of ASAP! We have a pair of zebra finches, about 20 lovebirds, 2 guinea pigs, 1 black lop eared bunny, 1 grey lionhead bunny, 2 baby sugar gliders, 2 adult gerbils, 4 baby hamsters, and 6 baby gerbils. Small rehoming fee might apply for the animals. Thanks"...I don't even want to KNOW.

"my wife and I are wantin a new puppie for are 3 kids our last one got old so we had her put down now are kids just aint the same with out a puppie we are wanting a dog that will stay small like a weaner dog or min pin we do not have alot of money but im sure we could work out a resonable price" 3 kids and no money? Psh, no.

I am a frequent on Kijiji and Craigslist. I do whatever I can to educate but I have also been successful in getting intact dogs surrendered to me without having to purchase a dog or cat. So far, I have taken in 12 dogs and 1 cat into rescue. For 4 of these people, they had no idea about the pet over population. (sure - ok....).

Anyways, I cannot stay away from there. Only weeks ago I was able to get a sweet puppy from a 'breeder' who sold all his 'stock'. Funny how he asked me so many questions as to why I wanted this dog. Still cannot figure out this guy - but at least the pup is now in good hands and will NEVER be bred.

Many of them don't know / understand about rescues and think we're the bad guys :wall:

Well, to them we are the bad guys. We are the ones trying to educate people about the overpopulation and to get their pets s/n. We are the ones who live without blinders on and see the real problems. We are bad in the sense that we are taking away their profitability when we inform and educate others. BAAAADDDD US!

Only one out *lost count* was nice and after back/forth emails found out she had adopted her lab from Gerdy so I reminded her in the contract you must return to rescue. I cc'd all communications to the rescue and they immediately went and picked the dog up.

Why would any of them understand ... 99% are in it for profit so ya were the bad guys :loser:
