14+kitties September 19th, 2009, 08:54 PM 58045
Yep, I said Jupiter!! :D I finally managed to get him!!!!!!!! A total fluke. I saw him go into the bigger house when I was working on the shed today so I quietly went over and closed the door. I then went and grabbed the carrier that has been waiting for just such a moment and went into the house too. He was none to pleased when I closed the door and he couldn't escape!! I tried convincing him he wanted to go into the carrier by putting it in front of him as close as I dared numerous times. No go. Finally he jumped up into one of the lofts. I picked up the broom, held the carrier as close to the loft as I could, and gently pushed him into the carrier with the end of the broom and slammed the door quickly. I was soooooo shocked that it worked I think I just stood there with a silly grin for about two minutes.
He is NOT a happy boy!! He hit the door so hard a few times I thought he was going to break it. I didn't dare take him out of the carrier so he is in it and inside a crate as well. Can't take the chance he will escape tonight. I would never get him again.
So the next step was to phone my contact with the rescue I work with. I had already scheduled three of the others for tomorrow so asked her if I could add one more. She, being the wonderful woman she is, said yes!!! If she had said I could only bring three I would have taken Snoopy the next time around. Soo....... four kitties go to get done tomorrow. Should be tons of fun!!!!!
Love4himies September 19th, 2009, 09:26 PM Wah friggen hoooooo!!!!
Way to go, 14+!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just don't know how you do it .
Sooooooo, what would it take for you to come all the way here and help me with Rose?
luckypenny September 19th, 2009, 10:30 PM Aw Jupiter, you have no idea how lucky you are :cloud9:. Great job 14+ :thumbs up.
growler~GateKeeper September 20th, 2009, 01:42 AM Way to go 14+!! :highfive: :thumbs up
TeriM September 20th, 2009, 01:46 AM Good job :thumbs up. Hope everything goes well :goodvibes:.
14+kitties September 20th, 2009, 11:05 AM Well, they are all at the vets now. We will be leaving in a few hours to go back and pick them up. Jupiter was his normal cheerful self still this morning. Snarling and hissing. He will be a joy to look after for a few days till he is healed enough to be released.
On the way there I had a few very terrified kitties. Grayson and Zara, the two oldest gray kitties I got a couple of weeks ago, were petrified. I think they probably thought they were being dumped again. So frikken' sad. They both soiled their carriers. Once I get them back and settled I am sure they will be ok. I don't know if Snoopy was really terrified or if he was just joining in the general howling going on in the car. Jupiter I had covered with a blanket so he was fairly quiet. Just very smelly.
Poor Benni is going a little nuts looking for her baby so when I get Snoop back I may take him back to be with her. Depends on how he reacts to the meds.
Sooooooo, what would it take for you to come all the way here and help me with Rose?
Mmmm, step by step directions there 'cause I can get myself lost very easily and someone I can absolutely trust to look after my babies the same way I do for at least two weeks. And you know that would be hard to find because there is no one I trust enough to look after them that lives close enough to come twice a day. Even the people I have met in this area who claim to love cats I would not trust fully.
Tell you what. You come here and get my gang convinced that raw is good for them and I will come work with Rose. :cloud9:
ancientgirl September 20th, 2009, 12:09 PM Wow, that's great you were finally able to get him. Patience is truly a virtue. He'll be so much happier without those nasty bits. :D
L4H. Did I miss something? What's wrong with Rose? I thought things were working out really well with her and the rest of your gang?
hazelrunpack September 20th, 2009, 02:50 PM Oh, way to go, 14+! :highfive:
:goodvibes: for swift recoveries for all four of the little darlin's! :D And :fingerscr that Jupiter's mood changes for the better in the interim. :o
chico2 September 20th, 2009, 04:01 PM OMG 14+ you got Jupiter:thumbs up:thumbs up that is unbelievable,but wonderful:cat:
He'll fit in much better now in the catuary and no more babies will be born:thumbs up
You are just simply a wonderful little Wonder-Woman:grouphug:
I cannot imagine driving with four howling cats all the way to Scarborough, but it's all for a good cause:cat:
krdahmer September 20th, 2009, 04:35 PM :thumbs up now that's impressive! Good job, hope everyone is ok and a little more relaxed when they realize you have come back to retrieve them and take them home! ;)
Frenchy September 20th, 2009, 05:11 PM Grayson and Zara, the two oldest gray kitties I got a couple of weeks ago, were petrified. I think they probably thought they were being dumped again. So frikken' sad. They both soiled their carriers.
Poor babies  if only they knew it's for their own good !
Wow on the capture on Jupiter 14+ ! You are a pro ! :thumbs up
onster September 20th, 2009, 05:25 PM 14+, I knew you would get him!!! Youre just amazing.
As for the poor kitties..I know it mustve been heartbreaking, but those furries don't know just what an amazing life theyve landed!
14+kitties September 20th, 2009, 10:15 PM So everyone is home and settled for the night.
Jupiter took some convincing to leave the carrier he was in but is now comfy in a crate for a few days to heal. He is maintaining his macho-cat attitude. He weighs in at 13.7 pounds and is estimated to be 4 years old. He did not endear the vet techs to him.
Snoopy we knew was around 5 or 6 months old. The vet estimates 6 months so I will give him a birth date of March 20th. He weighs 5.5 pounds. When the tech brought the kitties back out he was the only one being vocal. I think he just wanted mommy's knee on the way home because once we were on the road he curled up in his carrier on my knee and slept. Made me tired watching him. :cloud9:
Before I take the cats in to be fixed I need to give them names for TCR's records so.....
Grayson, the oldest of the four newbies, weighs 9 pounds and is around 2 yrs old. That was a bit of a surprise. I pegged him for around 1 year. He was much better on the way home although he did do some crying. Once I took him out of his carrier he put his paw on my cheek and settled immediately. He has done that since the first day I brought him home. :cloud9:
Zara, the middle sized kitty, really surprised me. The vet thinks she is around a year old. If you could see her you would know why I am surpised. She is very very small framed. She weighs 6.4 pounds. She was very quiet on the way home but settled right back into their double crates when we got back.
Sorry for the longish post but I would imagine you guys are quite used to it by now from me. :D
hazelrunpack September 20th, 2009, 10:23 PM It sounds like all is going well at the kitty whisperer's home. :cloud9:
Grayson settling with his paw on your cheek :lovestruck:
And Jupiter being the -cat to the vet techs! The techs are all praying that he stays healthy now for many many years! :D
Jim Hall September 20th, 2009, 11:00 PM 4 in hand eh?? gosh darn lol jupiter some are like that eh?
ancientgirl September 21st, 2009, 07:17 AM Aww, Grayson, what a sweetie. Sounds like they are all so sweet, well, except for Jupiter. You seem to have your hands full there, but hopefully now that he'll be a little more social since he's been snipped.:fingerscr
chico2 September 21st, 2009, 07:30 AM 14+,where are you keeping Greyson and Zara,I hope if they get adopted, they can go together, either way they are 2 lucky kitties:cat:
Chris21711 September 21st, 2009, 09:50 AM Way to go 14k :thumbs up....now Ethel can stop asking "did she get him yet"....
Next time Hubby and Yourself go to TO, why don't you get him to hop on the 404 instead of driving back home.....I can always find something to keep him busy while we are jawing

Nah. Once he has recouped for a week or so I will let him out of the crate and he can go back to doing what he did before. The other kitties seem to have accepted him so that isn't a bad thing. But now he doesn't have his gonads maybe he will stop yowling and trying to find a way out. That new top I put on the fence has managed to stop him though. And everyone else!!! :thumbs up
14+,where are you keeping Greyson and Zara,I hope if they get adopted, they can go together, either way they are 2 lucky kitties:cat:
Right at the moment they are still in the double crate I rigged when I got them. I am working on getting the small shed done so they can have some more room to move. They are doing well. It would be nice to have them adopted together but let's just see first if they can be adopted period. Not much interest in paying for cats in this area when you can get free ones from the newspaper. Doesn't matter how cute or well mannered they are. :frustrated:
Way to go 14k :thumbs up....now Ethel can stop asking "did she get him yet"....
:D She'll be pleased.
Next time Hubby and Yourself go to TO, why don't you get him to hop on the 404 instead of driving back home.....I can always find something to keep him busy while we are jawing
That would be wonderful but I doubt he would do that. He normally has things at home he "has" to do. He really is antisocial! Keep telling you gals that. He is much happier at home. I am also hoping next time we go to TO won't be for another few months. :fingerscr I am hoping to get back to see you though before the winter sets in. :fingerscr
Chris21711 September 21st, 2009, 10:10 AM That would be wonderful but I doubt he would do that.

He said Hi to me :o
I am hoping to get back to see you though before the winter sets in. :fingerscr
WOOHOOOOO :thumbs up
14+kitties September 21st, 2009, 10:16 AM WOOHOOOOO :thumbs up
:laughing: You funny Chris!!! He says hi to lots of people. Doesn't mean he wants to hang with them though. Sometimes I get the feeling he would be happy just seeing his boys. Oh well, I signed up for it. I deal with it.
Chris21711 September 21st, 2009, 10:29 AM :
Oh well, I signed up for it. I deal with it.
Same as him, when he signed up, right!.....or didn't he know he was signing up for 14++++++++++++++++++++++kitties
14+kitties September 21st, 2009, 10:34 AM Same as him, when he signed up, right!.....or didn't he know he was signing up for 14++++++++++++++++++++++kitties
 I know. We could have been half way to a new house with the money I spend on the kitties. :o Good thing they are soooooo worth it!!! :D
At the time we signed up neither of us knew where life was going to take us. But I am enjoying this voyage most of the time.
Chris21711 September 21st, 2009, 10:41 AM He is a good solid man, no floof about him, that is oh so important, you know that m/f :)
14+kitties September 21st, 2009, 10:47 AM 'Course I know that. No one else would put up with me. :p As long as he keeps on putting up with me we're good. :D :thumbs up
BenMax September 21st, 2009, 11:19 AM I am out of the loop.
Congrats 14+K in your capture. There was no doubt in my mind as you are one determined lady!:thumbs up
Good luck to Jupiter tomorrow. Best wishes and thanks again 14+K. What more can I say except you are WONDERFUL!:grouphug:

Awwww poor Grayson and Zara :grouphug: and :grouphug:for them. Jupiter is going to be much happier now, doesn't have to worry about competing for girls.
Deal, feeding kitties raw is much easier than picking up Rose and putting her in a carrier. :yell:  You are leaving TT behind when we switch places, aren't you :D
Wow, that's great you were finally able to get him. Patience is truly a virtue. He'll be so much happier without those nasty bits. :D
L4H. Did I miss something? What's wrong with Rose? I thought things were working out really well with her and the rest of your gang?
There is nothing wrong with Rose, she has exceeded my expectations for fitting into the house. In fact she is almost as good as Jasper :lovestruck:, I absolutely love her to bits. Even Sour Pea gave her a kiss on Thursday :cloud9:.
My problem is I can't pick her up, so I need somebody who will be able to get her used to getting picked up. I don't think she would ever bite, she is as gentle as a flower. :lovestruck: I am so worried that I may need to get her to the vet and I won't be able to get her in a carrier . She is going to need her claws clipped soon too. Badger was able to do it no problem, but I just can't seem to do it .

Thanks BenMax! :grouphug: He was actually done yesterday. Now he is still sleeping off the operation. Still Mr Cheerful too.

Oh! I had that same problem with Czari. I couldn't pick her up for almost a year! Now I can pick her up, even though she'll be all wiggly, but at least I can pick her up without fear of losing any digits.
I remember when she still didn't let me, I got nipped a few times. The way I'd approach her is just to catch her by surprise. I'd only really try picking her up to go to the vet. I'd do that by just making sure her attention was on something else. I'd get the carrier ready, and then just sort of walk by her a few times, just so she could think nothing was up. Then BAM! I'd grab her from behind, get a good hold of her under her front legs and hurry to the carrier and put her in really fast. She never knew what hit her.:D I found you have to just sort of psych yourself up, and just do it and not think about it. If you think about her scratching you or running or something, then you hesitate and that's where you lose your opportunity.

Rose is still a semiferal kitty in some ways. She's come a long way but it will take a lot longer before she forgets the rotten start she had in life. She probably senses your trepidation with picking her up and clipping claws. Badger has done the claw clipping so often with strays she doesn't let them pull any guff on her!!
What you need to do is to approach her in a no nonsense way; determined to do what you have to do. If she senses fear in you she will react exactly the way you think she will. If you can pick her up quickly and put her in a carrier backward so she doesn't see it coming it's half the battle. Maybe a vet tech can clip her claws for you.
Why not see if you can start with calling her up to your knee with a few treats? Make sure she is actually on your knee before she is allowed the treat. Don't worry about clipping claws. Just get her used to sitting on your knee first. You can start petting her, then once she's comfy with that start touching her feet to get her used to that, then massaging them while holding them gently. If it takes a month or so to get to the point where you can clip them big deal. She's not going anywhere. Neither are you. :D
And remember the biggest thing...... scratches heal. :thumbs up
