Niko is looking for a forever home. He is a black short haired 3 year old male, born end of August 2006. He has been at the shelter since October 2006. Although he has adapted well to life at the shelter (he lives in our large community cat room) he has been patiently waiting for someone to take him home.
Niko is pretty easy going. He loves to be petted, but hes not really used to being picked up too much.
You can come visit Niko at the shelter 7 days a week, between 1pm - 6pm. His adoption fee includes his basic vaccines, dewormed, and he is of course sterilised.

Brianna,he is a beauty:lovestruck:
I don't understand why people don't like black cats,I have one who's a real sucky and lovable.
Cats are cats and no cat is less deserving than any other,no matter what color they are.
Maybe Niko is happy where he is,but I hope someone will give him a home:fingerscr

Its weird about the black cat thing. we have a volunteer who spends a lot of time with our cats. she is even starting to do complete behaviour evaluations on them (she can only do 1 or 2 each time she comes). she happened to do evaluations on 2 of our black cats who have been there over a year and we started discussing it. both of them are super friendly, would be great with kids, dogs, other cats...nothing bothers them - but noone even takes a second glance at them because they look ordinary i guess.
I hope Niko finds a home soon. he has been at the shelter much too long!

Some people are superstitious about black cats. We have two, and we couldn't live our lives without them. :o

Brianna,I am sorry to see Niko is still there, hopefully he does not spend all his time in a cage:pray::sad:
A real"cat-person"would love a cat no matter what color.
Maybe by now,Niko is so used to the shelter,he feels it is his home, beats being out on the street I guess.
But I still hope he'll find someone soon:fingerscr

chico2 - nope, Niko does not spend any time in a cage. he lives in our larger *community cat room*, where about 25 cats live together. they have a big window sill to sit on, lots of shelves and nooks for them to each have their on spot. Niko is usually lounging in a big wicker basket, unless of course he is waiting at the door of the room to great people.
also wanted to mention that Niko really likes dogs as well. when the dogs are going through their behaviour assessments, one of the criteria is to see how they handle cats, so they are taken to the *community cat room* and Niko is one of the first cats to great the dog!

Unfortunately, people sometimes believe the stigma about black cats being bad or causing bad luck.
Personally, I would not trade my two black beauties for anything. When I first started looking for a cat, I actively looked for a black one!
I hope Niko finds a home soon.

Bri,he probably loves it where he is,but a good home would be better.
My vet has 3 cats in his clinic,2 of them for adoption, but they've been there so long, the staff and the vet loves them,so they are very picky about who can adopt, which is a good thing.
