Do Dogs Respect?

Or is this just a label we give them when they listen to what we've taught them? How do we know that's what it is. Read a post on another forum, that this person likes it when their dog comes to them with their head down, that it shows respect? Ya I know I should stop reading. First people say we shouldn't put human emotions on dogs and then bam go and do it.

Some things are pretty obvious with dogs, excitement, anxiety, fear, even sheer unadulterated joy, but I really don't know about respect.

I see it in my girls. They lower their ears and lower the head a bit when approaching after being called.

But if they meet another dog or strange human, the tail is up, head is up and ears up. They mean to be friendly but at the same time seem to project, "Hi, I don't know who you are, what you want or why you are on my turf, so I'm watching you and you better behave!" :laughing:
