The bendy house is torn to smithereens!!

Actually, it's just that the renovations are in full swing, but OMD it's insane around here!!!

We've ripped up our old wood floors:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3582/3794516211_d65102c1fd_b.jpg

under which we've discovered the most delightful :yuck: peel-n-stick laminate tiles...(happily our flooring contractor says we can leave it in...but we do need a new layer of subfloor on top to even things out a bit )

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2524/3794569989_f80b002782.jpg

We are painting new doors for our walk-in pantry:

I've been practicing my circus act whilst painting and re-sealing the skylights...

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2626/3794516191_b9cccc68bb.jpg

General chaos abounds right now, it's just nuts...

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3592/3794516205_b7ffa48b37.jpg

To top it all off, the little backhoe showed up yesterday to start digging up our foundation (our basement is a tad, er "damp"...by which I mean "flooded every time it rains")

My contractor was kind enough to carefully remove and set aside the few little flowers I'd planted at the side of the house, so I potted them up...

YIKES! chaos indeed! But just think of how nice it will be once all finished!
Gorgeous house by the way, is it an old schoolhouse? I love the high ceilings, skylights, and the colour scheme!
What do the furkids think of it all??

bendyfoot
August 6th, 2009, 09:26 AM
Yep, it's a 100-year-old schoolhouse!

Thanks for the compliment on the colour scheme! It was a HUGE change from what we got when we moved in...which was mostly flowery wallpaper and lavender paint :yuck: with dark purple trim on all the moldings!!!:yuck:

The furkids are pretty used to this kinda nonsense, we've been renovating for the past 5 years  This is the "last" big push to the finish, when we finally called in the pros to get the rest done :thumbs up

You brave, brave women, going through that kind of upheaval....last year we had our bedroom taped and plastered and I don't have the courage to get the rest of the upstairs done...the mess was a bloody nightmare

On the upside, the girls will have plenty to sniff :D

bendyfoot
August 6th, 2009, 09:30 AM
OMG I totally hear you about the drywalling...we've done quite a bit and it's a total DISASTER!!! Not for the faint of heart for sure (hopefully never again!)

Chris21711
August 6th, 2009, 09:47 AM
Our bedroom is 14' x 14', it took the dude 1 whole week to do it, no drywalling, just the taping and plastering...the rest of the upstairs that needs doing is an open area about the same size and the staircase, I can't bring myself to say go ahead, no, no, no :yuck:

WOW !!!! That's exactely the type of house I'm looking for :cloud9: love love yours :lovestruck:

and call me crazy but I would have kept the old wood floors , I just love them :cloud9: to me it screams cozy and doggy friendly :D

bendyfoot
August 6th, 2009, 10:45 AM
The floors were just sooooo worn and squeeky and uneven and full of gaps...the amount of dog hair and godknowswhat between the cracks when we pulled it up was just :yuck: Totally not cool. It found a home though a friend came and took it away with the intention of installing and refinishing it at her place.

The new wood that's coming is a matte (not shiny) "antique oak"...it's kinda rough-looking and feeling, not smooth at all, and a medium dark colour, so it should look ok even with dog nail marks

I think you MUST be confusing that statement with MaxBen and Nalsa! I recall (and please correct me if I am wrong) that Aslan AND myself (that being BenMax) stated that you would be CRAZY to change your floors. Infact I believe that Aslan 'suggested' to strip them and then stain them. You complained however that the wood is soft and the dogs nails mark them. And then Aslan provided you with a solution as to what you would use to harden the floor...

Yep, yep...I DO recall the above. As for MaxBen and Nalsa - heck what do they know?:frustrated:

Bendy it looks lovely. I can relate though about the reno's. We're sooooo close to the end of reno's after two full years. I don't know how it happened, but my son who has always been afraid of heights is a painter now, so he gets to do all my ladder work! Yay... I could never go up that one - nope. Now I say we're close to the end of the reno's, but we do still have some old hardwood floors... Relax BenMax, I want to sand and refinish mine - if I can live with more dust again. That may be a next year kinda project though. Keep up the good work Bendy, it looks marvelous. I love the house too - structurally - just beautiful.

Ok, reno update!!!

First of all, some of you know the saga of my destroyed front yard. Here is my yard/garden during the foundation repair. Note minimal damage:

Here is my yard/garden after the :censored::censored::censored:guys with the gigantormous backhoe came in to install a new well pump. Seriously?? I mean...seriously, was this necessary??? We are a bit  about it.

All that to go from this (hateful, needed-to-be-primed-at-least-once-a-week-PITA-noisy-:censored: well pump that lost water pressure if you tried to do a load of laundry right after taking a shower ):

:rA backhoe to install a well pump in your basement ? Are they at least gonna help fix up the lawn and garden :frustrated:?
.

The pump itself is down in the well, that blue thing is just a pressure tank...so they needed to install new pipe from the well (at the left corner of the garden at the front) to the house. But they brought in a serious excavator, not the little utility digger that would have made more sense, considering the pipe was all of a 2" diameter!!! And no, they're NOT going to help fix it, in the eyes of the plumber, it's already "fixed" In fact, they were going to BILL us for it!!! We made it clear that wasn't going to happen. We'll see what happens when we get the bill for the well job this week.

Excellent job Bendy and DW...It looks 150% better. See Frenchy the taupe shades looks so much warmer.:thumbs up

I love the new look of your place! You sure made great choices! It looks so open now but still warm and homey. What is the name of the color you used in the entryway? I think it is just perfect!:thumbs up

Yes but it's too modern for me :o

I love what you did with the house Bendy , but I like the before pics also  :p

Your house looks big enough for another roomate and her 3 dogs and 3 cats , come on , what do you say ? :D

Hmmm, we we DO have a spare room here...you'll have to run it past DW though...:D
