2nd night was South Africa
Here is video from Global BC it's almost 30 mins South Africa FW Video ( dcgq)

There was a massive thunder & lightning storm that night, some you can see in the video, alot of the ooohs & aaahs are actually for the lightning :D

I only took a couple of pics of the fireworks cuz it was pouring & really cold by the time they started, plus I'd already gotten the camera wet trying to catch the  lightning

Sunset in the pouring rain

Just after sunset, you can see the rain is making the water in the pool (foreground) ripple

Check out the colours after sunset

More from South Africa night

Here's some of the lightning shots

Fork lightning 9:19pm

Fork lightning 9:32pm

Sheet lightning a little harder to tell it's lightning but it is, this was taken 9:35pm

August 3rd, 2009, 04:02 PM
Okay here's the few South Africa fireworks pics I got

Unfortunately really blurry but it was pouring rain & cold with a breeze coming up off the ocean at that point

Turned out pretty funky

August 3rd, 2009, 04:05 PM
I love the sunset shots. :cloud9:

The last South Africa pic is the best  but Canada has them beat for sure. :D

3rd night was United Kingdom
Here is video from Global BC it's almost 30 mins UK FW Video ( dcgq)

August 3rd, 2009, 04:08 PM
More from UK night

August 3rd, 2009, 04:13 PM
Hmmm ....the UK looks like competition for Canada. :D

I do love the last shot. :cloud9:

August 3rd, 2009, 04:14 PM
The Final night was China
Global doesn't have any video up of China, if they do put one up I'll post it
Here is video from Global BC it's almost 30 mins China FW Video ( dcgq)

Unfortunately for China there was virtually no wind that night so the smoke pretty much stayed right where the fireworks went off, doesn't affect the judging but sucks for viewing & picture taking

More from China

How cool is that!

I like this one too

August 3rd, 2009, 04:27 PM
Hmmmm ....China has some good ones too. :D

I don't think I'd bet any money on who the winner is but I'm sure hoping it's Canada. :ca: :fingerscr :goodvibes:

August 3rd, 2009, 04:46 PM
I'm hoping for Canada too :D I like it the best, China a close second :)

August 3rd, 2009, 10:54 PM

When will they be choosing a winner?

v nice nver been to a competition before

August 3rd, 2009, 11:58 PM
When will they be choosing a winner?

I don't know  within the next couple of days I would assume. It's a new format this year with 4 different countries competing instead of 3 plus the "Grand Finale" on the 4th night where the winner was announced that night.

August 4th, 2009, 12:08 AM
I heard that they will pick the winner tomorrow.

August 4th, 2009, 12:15 AM
v nice nver been to a competition before

Various countries compete at different events around the world including Montreal & Toronto, they used to call this event the Benson & Hedges Symphony of Fire but had to change the name when Canada outlawed tobacco advertising, some countries such as South Africa still use the name Symphony of Fire but sponsored by a local radio station. Vancouver nearly had to cancel the competition again this year (was saved last minute last year too) due to lack of funding but four different major sponsors stepped up for different nights plus the overall name sponsor.

August 4th, 2009, 12:40 AM
So will they have a grand finale again this year :fingerscr

August 4th, 2009, 12:50 AM
Nope no grand finale it's over & done with for the year, they had 4 countries this time instead of 3. The past years grand finale was just each of the 3 countries getting 10 mins on the last night to blow it all out trying to out do each other :D

August 4th, 2009, 12:58 AM
What an anticlimax, though! :frustrated: They need the grand finale so they have a spectacular backdrop while announching the winner! :D

:goodvibes: for Canada!
