Happy gotcha day Bailey !!!

6 years ago , after finally getting my own house , after months at looking at petfinder and pounds listings , I finally saw one for a stray red golden (was looking for an Irish Setter so red golden was close enough ) there was no picture of him as he had just been found the night before. As soon as I finished work , I called the pound lady to keep Bailey for me until I would get there , it was about 2-3 hours drive. I fell in love on the spot. :lovestruck: pound lady told me he was probably a "country dumping" , we don't know how long Bailey was on his own but , when he finally found a house, he took refuge on their patio and wouldn't leave.

Bailey was the perfect first dog ! He was 5-6 years old back then , he was afraid of loud noises , loud voices , not sure if he was abused or just not socialised. But he's a totally different dog today :cloud9:

Bailey opened the door for so many dogs .... adoptees & fosters , I couldn't have done it without him being so nice and patient with all of them !

So that would make him 11-12 years old today , he is going blind (vet said he can only see shadows now) and going deaf , but since these conditions started gradually , it doesn't bother him and to me , he's still the same dog I adopted 6 years ago  I just don't see any differences in him :o

I still have to buy the ice cream for the ice cream cone pawty this afternoon

Happy gotcha day Bailey , you are just THE best dog ever , I am soooo lucky to have found you :cloud9:

Aw Frenchy, what a beautiful story!!! :lovestruck::lovestruck::lovestruck: I love Bailey and share your love of olden goldens. Do you find since his eyesight/hearing have begun to fail that he is more cuddly? Ginger sure is.

They teach us so much these beautiful souls...I am sure that Bailey thanks YOU everyday of his life for giving him such a paradise to grow old in.:cloud9:

Bless you both :thumbs up

LOL..."gotcha day" is the day people who adopt dogs or cats (rather from a litter with a known birthdate") "GOT" the dog or cat. It's what we celebrate instead of a birthday. You'll hear it a lot here as many members have adopted!!! Any reason to party and give ice cream to the furbabies!!!:party::party:

Not really , he's still the same love bug , that is why , even if I knew the blindness was coming (vet told me a while ago) only in his last appointement back in January that vet told me how far it was. I saw some signs , but didn't think it was that bad. Now with treats , I have to hold them right in front of his mouth or else he's wondering where the heck they are :p

and when he's outside , he won't see me when I come out , if I call him , he looks at my direction but never straight at me. He has less problem when I'm standing in the middle of the yard. But , it's not bothering him so I don't let it bother me. He is healthy and that's all I ask for.

Bailey says thanks to everybody for the birthday wishes  I will try to take a picture tomorrow as I gave him a cute puppy cut this morning :lovestruck:

Mmmmmmm gotta love that ice cream.

shuuutttttt , don't tell them but , as I was making the ice cream cones , I realised I bought the wrong kind ..... I bought something healthy  I bought frozen yogourt instead of ice cream , by mistake :wall:

I even bought that chocolate syrop so I can eat the ice cream left overs :yell: it's against my religion to eat frozen yogourt  no way :yuck:

friends are coming over next week end , I'll pass it on to them

awww Chico2 , not really. I'm counting my blessings , I lost Daisy and Sam to cancer, and very probably the same with Chloe. They were about same age as Bailey. So if the blindness and deafness are the only things we have to deal with , I'm pretty happy with that :)
