YES! :highfive:

For the last couple of weeks or so, Seth has been letting me pet him at breakfast and play with his toes the odd time. Yesterday, he let me pet him at supper and then later in the night while watching the Bachelorette (yes, I am watching that :o). I would hear the odd sputtering during these pets, but this morning, he actually started to purr full blown! He was rubbing against my hand and knee...tail straight up and on his tippy toes! :cloud9:

The thing I don't get though is why does he smell my hand BEFORE he will let me pet him? He knows it's me...he's not blind...maybe he is checking for food and settling for pets?

I almost feel guilty because the only time my Milo will let me pick him up or he hugs me is when he goes to the vet - and then it is likely just the lesser of 2 evils in his mind:laughing:

Yup, especially after almost SEVEN months of NO touching unless I trick him into the crate to clip his nails! :cloud9:

TG........:thumbs up awesome!!!

With my girl Phoebe it took two years before she would come near anyone. She would run out to eat and then run and hide. Had to be super quiet when she poked out or she would hide for days.

WTG Seth............you are on your way to years of loving!!!

That's great!

Mine don't usually sniff before a pet, but when I come home and start to wash their dishes, they will get on the counter and sniff my arm and my face.

Not really sure, but he has led a rough life...we all think he was about 2yrs old when I adopted him...his records start with him at the Strathmore rescue (not sure how long), then the Calgary SPCA (again, not sure how long, but they neutered him so maybe someone adopted him and brought him back-they don't neuter unless adopted ) who was going to put him down because they deemed him "unadoptable", then MEOW rescued him and he was there for a year...at the MEOW shelter, he let me pet him-shy though, but at home, he is VERY shy around me, but hangs on Messina's every breath.

He actually came into the bathroom for pets this morning...he is such a sweet boy :lovestruck: "unadoptable" my ***! :frustrated:

Messina sniffs me and checks out the things I bring home as I come through the door...it is soooo cute! I play a game and put something new somewhere to see how long it takes them to find it...when one finds it, the other comes trotting along to check it out!

TG i am soooo happy for u!!! yay!!!

I am sure he will just keep on opening up for you. Onnie took about a year and half to show us his true self. He recently turned into a lap kitty too! I dont think he ever wasn't one...he just didnt trust us enough.

I know Jan. 12...ooops...that makes it 6 months :o It seems longer though...seems like they have always been here :)

I agree, it is a trust thing and it makes me sick to think someone has done something so wrong to something so sweet to make him and others so afraid of people.

Do u know if there is a history of abuse? he just be more aloof /wary of people...

Bunduk ducks and bears down anytime anything sudden happens around him, or you reach for him unexpectingly. He always has to see your hand coming or he will duck/cower....he was never abused. It's just the way he is.

I don't know...he just seems to show signs of abuse...he runs with his tail and head down whenever someone gets too close (sometimes he pees himself-this has fortunately stopped)...he is always watching, but until recently he has always watched from a distance

Edit: We posted a the same time...maybe he is just shy...I've never had a kit like him, so I don't know...

:highfive: i'm so glad he's coming around! well sometimes its not anything that happened to them. Stormy is terrified of my husband and we've had her since she was 7 weeks old. she bonded with me but still hasn't gotten trust with him. sometimes its just the cat. but with it sounds like his history i can see why he might have trouble trusting.

as for the smelling the hand thing serena does that to me. i'm with jim it seems they want to make sure we are clean  cause when my hand is dirty she slinks away from me. hence why she is called the princess cause she always has to be clean.

oh wow to the point that he pees???? ok that is quiet extreme. I'm glad he stopped that.

I really hope the poor thing didnt have to deal with abuse.

Actualy now that I think back, Bunduk farted everytime I picked him up or reached for him when he was a kitten :frustrated:.....tho i guess ill take farting over pee any day. Then again his farts could be used in warfare 54732

Thank God he outgrew that!!

Bunduk is quite the character! I don't mean to laugh, but I can just see/hear him pff pff pff Messina does that too if Seth chases her just after eating...sometimes he will stop ubruptly and make that ewww face! :D

I am glad Seth quit with the peeing thing too...if I had to crate him, he would not only pee, but poop too...I really felt sorry for the little fella.
