Under threatening skies . . . .

Walking the prairie southwest of Calgary, on the eastern slopes of the Rockies with Keeper and Abby, skies threatening overhead.

We stopped and sat in the grass for awhile, under an Osprey nest, hoping to get some good shots of the birds!!! Instead, we got good and rained on after staying too long too far from the vehicle.

Below, Abby, a portrait . . . .

The Osprey comes in low to spook us away. Mostly this was non-confrontational and a little less exciting than last year when we were being dive-bombed. They come back to some human-installed elevated roosts to this site every year and I come by once in a while looking for a shot.

And, bonus coverage, the first ripple of the morning, earlier today at Upper Kananaskis Lake.

Thank you.

Abby was wet from dipping in the lake.

This is a favourite walk for both but Keeper in particular as it's flat and there is lots to smell and, there is also the occasional corpse to investigate. This is on the Eastern Slopes of the Rockies, about an hour southwest of Calgary. This is crown range land, leased for pasture but also open for public use. We stay away when cows/bulls are about but haven't seen any this year as the land refreshes itself. The scenes above were on the directly opposite shore of the depiction below, which was taken last year (don't worry, I got them away from the Elk body quick enough. Abby likes hooves though).

In the years we have been walking here, we have never seen anyone else walking, only the occasional group of people fishing at a dam. Winter is often the best for making fresh tracks. We saw a wolf here once, off in the distance . . . . .
