Nervous, Dexter's neuter day....

dogcatharmony

ohhhh I was doing so good not worrying about today, then I woke up at 3 in the morining and have been up since. All wound up.....and nervous.....

Of course the whole house is on edge, the two others are complaing about no food, Dexter is wailing cuz he is starving (he is an eating machine.....bottomless pit I tell ya). The dog is restless and on edge, she knows somethings up.

Dexter goes in in less than a hour........

I know it's got to be done, but I am just worried. Plus Zoe and I are going to miss him terribly until tomorrow sometime....Poor Zoe, she is going to be beside herself without her buddy.

Oh I dread the spay/neuter days too! Of course its the best thing to do but how terrible do we feel before we take them in and how wonderful it feels to have them home again.

Well I know it's over due him getting it done. He has only been with me two weeks and this last week I noticed he has that Male smell around his behind. I think he may have sprayed my foot stool, it has that musty stinky smell. I also noticed yesterday that my other male was getting a bit testy around him, and those two have been pretty close the past two weeks.

I am going to be a nervous wreck until he comes home tomorrow. Hope I am not to wound up to drive him to the vet this morning.

DCH,:fingerscrfor Dexter,I am sure everything will be fine,he'll just be a little lighter:laughing:
None of my boys had to stay over night, they were fine a few hours later, maybe Dexter can come home today too.

If they tell me he can come home I don't know how rough Zoe may be. She is hard to handle when she wants to groom him. When he came home from the vets when he got his needles and his ears flushed, Zoe was flipping him over with her nose, and poking him with it and then giving him a huge spit bath.

:shrug:Then there is the nasty queen b upstairs......maybe a night at the vets may be a wiser choice.

Don't know, I would love him home, but I have to keep his wellness first in mind.

WEll just noticed the time, just I should get him rounded up and on his way. Poor little fella, all curled up on my lap, not knowing about his adventure today.........

I think the drive home after dropping them off is the worst!

I'm sure everything will be OK.

dogcatharmony
June 29th, 2009, 07:51 AM
Well made it there okay, and yep the drive home was pretty bad. Coming in the door with no kitty was pretty bad too, I am getting sniffed over by Zoe, and she is running back to the door and back to me sniffing. She even had to go outside in the pouring rain to look where the kitty cage went, and she don't do rain....

They said to call around 3 and if he is resting comfortably they will send him home, or I can opt to pick him up tomorrow after 10. If he is unsettled they will advise me to take him home and put him in his normal surroundings to help keep him resting . She said best thing if he is resting comfortably this afternoon is just to leave him until tomorrow, especially when I have rambouctious others at home. Think I may do that, hopefully he will just relax and be the cool cucumber that he has been, and tomorrow will be here quick.

I'm sure the little guy will be okay. I've left all mine overnight. I just felt better knowing they were there in case they had any reaction to the anesthesia or something. It's hard to leave them there though.

He'll do great, DCH! :grouphug: If they want to send him home today, would he tolerate being in a crate for a while to give him some quiet time alone? :fingerscr

:goodvibes: for a speedy recovery!

:goodvibes::goodvibes::goodvibes: I am sure it will be fine but you won't believe that until you hear it!!! :D

I remember when Hobo had his neuter...Pat had to update me by phone all day as I had to work!!!:laughing::laughing:

Hard to leave him at the vet's but sounds like a good plan...don't want Zoe "overmothering" him:cloud9:

He will do fine DCH. :grouphug: A snip is a pretty quick procedure. They usually don't even put the boys completely under for that around here. It's over with so quick.
I was going to mention the same as Hazel. If you still have that crate there it would be ideal for Dex. Just make sure his litter is the non clumping kind for a few days in case he decides to lick.
Let us know how the little fella does.

I called at 2 like the woman said to. He is resting comfortably and I have decided to pick him up tomorrow after 10. Zoe is losing her mind looking for him, so she would be bonzai if I brought him home now. Give him some time to rest, and come to his full senses.

I remember with Amos his first day back he was zooming around on his own. But what precautions should I take with having a dog running around now? And I have stairs too now......should I block the stairs off? I know I had to with Zoe, but then having a spay and a neuter are two different operations.

Any advice? And thanks for the good vibes.....I am still nervous, and I miss the little furball like crazy. I keep tripping up to look under my feet for him. I think Amos and Phoebe are having a party upstairs right now........they are so evil!!!

DCH,just like when Vinnie was at the vet all day,Chico went"That white blob is gone, yeah, lets party"
I don't think by tomorrow you'll need to take any precautions,he'll be fine and happy to be home:cat:
Oh,and Zoe must be a wonderful sweet pup, loving Dexter sooo much.

DCH, when O'Shawnnessey and Mirabelle got fixed. I had OS in the bedroom and Mirabelle in the bathroom so they wouldn't be trying to play with each other and could heal better. But OS did heal very quickly, mind u he didn't have a big dog sticking her nose in certain ummm sensitive places either. I do hope Dexter stops spraying.

:goodvibes: for a swift recovery! Give Dexter a hug for hazel :D

He's home, he's home!!!

I just put up some pics of him and mother Zoe. Vet said he was a cool customer, but he was going to be very hungry. He wouldn't eat anything at the vets....I really don't blame him :D

It was a rough night not having him around, Zoe whined and whined. I have to keep on eye on the two other evil boogerheads, Dex has a new smell.....Phoebe is on a bit of a warpath. So he is resting in my room, away from bonzai zoe and evil boogerheads.

Look at his poor little bald bum..........(if your sqeamish, don't look....it's not that bad) oh his poor little hiney.....

Don't worry too mcuh about the odd supposed-to-be off-limits acrobatics. Our guys, and girl, did not want to follow the rules and rest, although we did our very best. Within a day they were attempting jumps, and running up and down stairs. They all healed cleanly, and for the boys it was no time at all before you couldn't even see where the surgery had been. (Due to all their long fur back there.)

Glad the surgery went well! I see Zoe's paws in that pix.....lol......not letting him get too far away from her, is she??

I'm glad he's home. Maybe put some baby powder on him and everyone else, so they all smell the same.

Yay, Dexter! :highfive:

Dexter's happy.
Zoe's happy.
Mom and Dad are happy.
the two  boogers are secretly happy but don't want it to get around

Tonight everyone will sleep much better! :D

Awww poor Dexter. Yep I see zoe's paws in the pics too...bless her little heart!

Maybe she is protecting Dexter from getting a bum rush from the other kitties...pun intended.

I hope he heals quickly. And now Mommy can sleep good tonight. :grouphug:

I think Dexter is a little sore today. His back end looks a bit redder than it did yesterday. He was very active yesterday, he was playing upstairs with Amos and the string, he was climbing the chairs and scooting. Up and down the stairs, jumping to the tables.......

He slept curled up next to me all last night. And he came down and ate then slowly, very slowly went back up the stairs to bed. I think he overdid himself. He is not licking the area, he's been good about it.

Think I read on here somewhere that I can put an ice pack on his sore parts?

I will keep an eye on him today

Poor little guy. He probably had pain killers in his system and figured he was okay to play.

Did they give you any pain killers for him? I remember they gave me some for the boys as well as the girls when I had them S/N.

dogcatharmony
July 1st, 2009, 11:19 AM
No they didn't give me anything for him. Just said to watch for bleeding or swelling.

He lets you pet his bum, doesn't show that it hurts. But he is one laid back kitty. They are just redder/purplish.......they don't look too much bigger than yesterday.

Should I watch and see if he uses the box? He is sleeping again, curled up in the middle of Zoe's bed upstairs.

ancientgirl

He probably realizes he over did it. Sheesh, even male kitties are hardheaded.

With my Vinnie,I did not really notice anything different,he came home the same day,was all excited and strated palying with Rocky.
No pain-meds for him either...maybe Dexter just overdid it and is now tired.

dogcatharmony
July 1st, 2009, 04:22 PM
Well he barfed up his food earlier. Went back to sleep. Ate a little bit and is now curled up on my legs for the past hour and a half. Oh and he used the box with no problem.

I think he may have over did it yesterday. Either that or he didnt rest comfortably at the vets, because he sure is one sleepy kitty today.

Even Zoe sniffed his bum and laid off on him. She just laid down underneath where he is slleping on my legs:shrug: and she wouldn't go for a walk, she had no interest in her birthday lunch......

Guess she needs to keep near him. Dex is so lucky to have a mommy like Zoe:lovestruck:

I don't know if you'd want to ice his nether end, DCH, but when Cole was sore, we used cool compresses on it to soothe the irritation. He didn't seem to mind...as long as it wasn't too cool. :o

:thumbs up Dexter is up and running again!!!!
About nine o'clock tonight he woke up and was full of beans! He's got his bright eyes back, and zooming.

His little back end has gone back to a pale red, and the swelling from this morning has gone.......they were quite swollen now that I see they are back to being little peas.

Tonight is going to be fun.....I can already feel it:evil:

I'm glad his bum is better,,,but do u think u should put him in a room by himself for another day? I did that with all my 3.

Well it was a quite night. He curled up next to me again and didn't move all night. He is still sleeping.

I don't really need to put him in a room all to himself, I have the cat room, that is where Phoebe and Amos usually hang out all day. And Zoe only goes upstairs if I allow her, or to go to bed. He has the whole master bedroom all to himself, one people bed, 3 dog beds, 2 chairs and a laundry hamper.......so he has a lot of room to be comfy all by himself.

Hopefully he comes around to himself soon......I miss a kitty downstairs:sad:

He'll be right as rain soon, DCH! He's young and healthy--he's not gonna let a little snip-snip keep him down for long! :D
