Behaviour question: cat wagging tail

I recently adopted a cat from a friend and she seems to have adjusted to her new environment and human friends well but... she wags her tail a lot, almost constantly when shes awake. Everything I've read says this is a sign of aggression but she doesn't seem upset and when I pet her and cuddle her and she wags her tail she doesn't snap or claw at me. Is there something else that could explain this wagging behavior?

ive ahd cats that wag tier tails like puppies i have one now that carries her tail like a flag and waves it almost all the time

if nothong else is going on, like ears going back or eyes getting big tis no worries Here is a ggame you can play see if you can pet her so the wagging stops if so you just hit the sweet spot, so to speak

I have two that have flag poles and wag them ALL THE TIME! Personally, I think they use them to communicate with each other (long story on that :rolleyes:)...I find tail down twitching the tip back and forth more of an agressive movement...tail up = happy :shrug:

oh yeah the little tail tip twitch while in hunt mode itas like somethongs got to bleedoff all the energy

Cat's lash their tails when over excited. I'm using over-excited to refer to any strong emotion, good or bad. though the cause of tail - wagging is usually anger, we have one cat who gets overstimulated just by being petted and shows it by wagging his tail. It's something he likes, but he can only take so much. The faster the wag, the more excited the cat is getting. A wagging tail can also indicate intense concentration on something, like a mouse in the house.

As already said, a wagging tail can mean contentment. Some cats show their happiness by wagging their tail. When they are intently watching something they are "hunting" their tail will wag a little more aggressively. If you are holding your cat or petting her and she starts lashing her tail (a very strong wag) then it would be a good idea to stop doing what you are doing or put her down gently and leave her alone till she settles.
