Gentle Leader or Halti?

What is the difference?

Lady is now very comfortable with us, and she pulls. She's so strong!!

I am wondering which of the two products works best, and what the difference is?

Thanks!

How about the Canny collar (also known as the Champ Walk Master in Canada)? Here's some info: http://www.cannyco.us/

I tried both...
Bambi was able to get out of the Halti with her front paws.

I have a Gentle Leader Easy Walk.Looks like a regular harness but the hook for the leash in in front on the dog's chest not on the neck.

Depending on which gentle leader you're referring to. There are gentle leader head collar and gentle leader easy walk harness.

I tried all three (Halti, gentle leader head collar and the gentle leader harness). I found the harness doesn't really work for me if my golden or rottie pull (they are very strong). Both Halti & gentle leader head collar work well as they do stop them from pulling. I don't need much strength to control them once they are on the head collars (similiar concept with people leading a horse really).

I'm using Halti now as they are easy to put on but it's also true that they are able to get out of the Halti with the front paws. Gentle leader head collar is a bit harder for them to get out of but sometimes they do manage to do that too....

1st photo is with Gentle leader head collar and 2nd photo is with Halti. (sorry couldn't find any photo of my golden on the harness)...

Hope this helps.

Molly pulls a lot so I tried the Gentle Leader Harness first. It worked, but I found that it kept slipping and getting looser as we were on our walks.
Molly is an impulsive dog and will sometimes jump/ lunge at other dogs or strange people so I wanted to have more control over her head. The Halti was the best solution for this. She doesn't really like it, it seems to make her head itchy, but it does give me better control over her, and has reduced her pulling.
Neither are a cure-all. When we see something really exciting, Molly can still pretty much pull me along with a Halti or a Gentle Leader on... all 35 lbs of her!

The Halti is good because it comes with a safety strap that attaches to the collar. My dogs have never gotten out of the Halti, but if they did I'd still have hold of them. Downside of the Halti is friction on the nose. I've heard good things about the "Newtrix" head collar, in that it is hard to get out of and reduces friction and avoids jerking the dog's head/neck if it pulls. I haven't tried it myself, but haven't heard any negative comments about it.

I have also used the Gentle Leader Harness. I like it as well, and it removes the possibility of your dog sustaining a neck injury.

I used the Halti on my DalxLab & it completely stopped his pulling the first time I used it, he was one who would pull until he choked himself .

I never had any issue with Cally backing out or pawing off the Halti, if it is adjusted correctly there isn't enough room for them to get it off.

The Halti Collar or GL must fit snugly, only one finger should be able to fit under the portion of the collar that snaps or buckles behind the ears. The nose portion of the halter should NOT lie closer than inch to the eyes. On a GL the clip should be tightened up under the chin, so that again, the one finger fits in. The Halti self adjusts IF you buy the correct size.

As a bonus the Halti works upsidedown as a harness for my cat :D

Ok folks, thanks a lot!

I ended up buying a Halti AND a Gentle Leader harness. I got them of kijiji, so only paid $40 total. :D

Going to test the harness out tonight.:fingerscr

(Lady almost pulled my daughter in front of a bus yesterday...so no more walking the big doggy for her!)

Good luck and have fun.

I used Halti on both my Golden and Rottie. Together they weighted almost double of my body weight :) and am able to walk them both at the same time without pulling :)

Oh gosh...what a difference!!! :D

I put the harness on her (rather than the halti..we'll try that tomorrow) and although I didn't tighten it properly, it worked! She walked right BESIDE me! At one point, I held the leash across my palm without closing my hand around it...no pulling at all.
