Shopping for Dog Beds

Hi everyone,
I (Molly, actually ) am in the market for a new dog bed for Molly. :cloud9: One to sleep in at night in our bedroom. Her current bed is foam, and oval with little "walls", which she seems to enjoy. EXCEPT for the fact that after one year of use, the foam on the inside is completely ripped and so she's pretty much sleeping on the hard floor due to no foam left in the bottom.... you see, she is one of those dogs who scratches at her bed for about 5 minutes before she lays down with a big grunt every night  so that has destroyed her bed.
Any suggestions for a new bed? I don't want to break the bank, but I would like something more durable. Washable is a bonus too. and did I mention something pretty wouldn't hurt too! :o
Thanks in advance!

here is a picture of Molly in her current bed. We have added a blanket to it for extra "padding" until we find her a new bed!!!

I have bought all my dog beds at Costco. Very reasonably priced and last forever. Also, they are easily washed also.

Good luck.

PS thanks for the Molly pic too :D

Awwwwwwwwww Molly is just too cute!

How about making her a girly bed from one of your old sweeter,or to match your decor...

Hi

I like the make your own idea.
I made a huge bed for my shepherd from foam bought
at a furniture recovering place. The store glued 2 pieces
together and I had a bed that was 4 ft wide and 5 ft long.
I know it is big but Jasmine loved to stretch out. After
Dudley( the standard poodle) came to live with us, I saw
them sharing the bed a few times.
I covered the bed with a shower curtain, then old blankets.
This was easy for me to pick-up clean around and wash.

Molly says thanks everyone! :dog:

I am not so crafty when it comes to sewing. I went to both Walmart and Canadian Tire today (pet stores are closed on Sundays here) and couldn't find anything at either store... all the beds were either tiny or huge, and they all seemed to be of very poor quality.
I might need to wait until I go to the "Big city" (Thunder Bay) in a few weeks and take a look at the larger pet stores there.
Anyone know of any places online where I could find one???

Orvis makes some handy-dandy ones...pricey, but high quality, and they offer moisture resistent ones...nice if someone barfs :p

OOH! Thanks Hazel!!! I love their beds! I am ordering the round, bead-filled one... according to the Orvis website, its perfect for dogs who like to dig a "nest" before laying down!! And as a bonus- it's on sale!!!

Molly is just adorable :lovestruck: :cloud9:

I found the Petmate faux sheepskin dog blankets to be very durable & so easy to wash, I kept 3 of :rip::dog: Cally's that Duffy :cat: loves to sleep on.

Another great bed was the PetMate Durabed (http://www.petmate.com/Products/Durabed__27683.aspx) Cally loved that one, I just added big pillow type bedding to it for extra cushioning

aww look at those two squeezed onto one bed... maybe Hazel needs to order another one, too!

The Orvis website was really helpful, for anyone else who is in the market- I used the live chat to ask about shipping to Canada, and they told me that they will only ship size Small and Med. beds to Canada. Luckily Molly is just a little girl! :lovestruck:

Fourteen years ago we bought Bailey's bed from Cabela's.

http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/pod/horizontal-pod.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/pod-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat603205-cat20862_TGP&rid=&indexId=cat20862&navAction=push&masterpathid=&navCount=1&parentType=index&parentId=cat20862&id=0046153

Inners have a magnum loft fill with zipper liner then an exterior cover which also has a zipper to remove and is washable. It has stood up to Bailey and now Gryphon for fourteen years. Still in great shape. :thumbs up

Happy bed hunting Mollywog. :thumbs up

We have a styrofoam bead filled bed, a drop 'n flop. It is being used by dog number three now, with infusions of new beads every now and then. But they must be hot in summer. None of our dogs will sleep on them in summer. You might find you need another kind of bed for summer.

P.S. You can wash the inner bead filled liner, and dry on very low heat, but the beads will shrink.

I too am looking for a new bed, the Cabela's look good, if yours KLM has lasted that long I think it would be a good buy. All of Sasha's beds have lost the cushioning in them and they are flat... thanks KLM for the site. pbp

The bed arrived! Its really nice, seems to be of excellent quality. Molly doesn't seem to be too sold on it yet, we'll see tonight when it's in her usual "bed spot" in our room!
Longblades, you are right- it does seem to hold heat. Normally Molly loves being warm, but in the heat of summer this one might be too warm! I guess we will see...
Here she is, reluctantly trying it out (I lured her with treats....)

 don't worry , she'll get use to it. I love how fluffy it seems to be :cloud9:

I love them too , that's the only type I buy. I haven't checked out the prices lately (Costco raised their prices on every pets items and food last year because of the gas prices :frustrated:) but I know lately , they lowered the prices of kibble so maybe the beds are less expensive now too. They were very affordable anyway even at the highest $$$.

I love the Costco beds too. They have an on-line store but I'm not sure if the beds are there.

I think she liked it!!! She is usually awake before me, poking her nose in my face looking for breakfast. When I got up this morning, she was still fast asleep :cloud9: :sleepy:

Our all-time favorite is the Kuranda bed. A little pricey but worth it. Super easy to wash and simple to vacuum underneath. We also use baby crib mattresses but you'd need two or three Molly's to fill one :D.

So glad she likes her new bed :thumbs up. Now how about some more pics of her snoozing on it :goodvibes:?

Those Kuranda beds look neat. Almost like a cot?
It's hard to catch her snoozing in it... she doesn't go upstairs to bed until we do, and in the morning as soon as she hears me moving she jumps up, eager to start her day! Little monkey! :clown:
