Raw diet for a kitten

We are getting our kitten (Maine coon) in 2 weeks. She will be 11 weeks old. Now she eats kibble and canned. I want to switch her to raw as soon as possible. But everyone say that such small kittens have to eat 4-5 times a day. I can feed her in a morning before leaving to work, then at 6 when I return home and before I go to sleep (at 10-11). I don't see how I can give her raw food 4-5 times a day :( Any suggestions?

Congrats on getting a new kitten! (pics please, when you do :D)

You could always leave some canned out for her to snack on while you're gone. That's what I do with my dude. I've even left raw out for several hours but mostly he eats it up right away, where as he'll nibble on the canned over the course of the day. What sort of raw diet do you have in mind (home-made, commercial)?

I want to make the food by myself. I even bought a few books about raw feeding :)

Cool! That way you can ensure quality ingredients. What books did you pick up? I'm asking because there aren't that many decent books on feeding raw to felines. They tend to have recipes with way too much plant matter. Some good online info can be found here:

I have this book http://www.raisingcatsnaturally.com/
and "Whole Health for Happy Cats: A Guide to Keeping Your Cat Naturally Healthy, Happy, and Well-Fed " by Regina Schwabe and "Your Cat: Simple New Secrets to a Longer, Stronger Life" by Elizabeth M. Hodgkins.

Good choices! I have both Michelle Bernard's and Elizabeth Hodgkin's books. Haven't read Regina's book but it looks okay too. Do you have a name already for your kitty?

Yes, we have a name already - Marcel http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/1/Marcel . It was for a male , my son wanted a male kitten. But we ended up picking a girl . The male in the litter was the same color as my childhood cat. I didn't want the same color - too many memories.
My son got used to a name and wanted to keep it :) We speak Russian at home so for us this name sounds good and more like Marcel' , last "L" is soft sound.

I second the canned recommendation. Thats what I had to do with Amber when she was very small and eating 5 meals a day.

You may also consider leaving the food partially frozen. That way, she can come back to it as it thaws out. I have heard it suggested before but never tried it.

Yup the partially frozen idea works also :) I've done this with my grrl as well as left raw in the dish when I leave in the morning areound 9-10am, she goes & eats it midday, then gets fed when I get home around 7-8 pm, usually with another before bed snack or two in the evening.
