So the absentee landlord who owns the 2 story wood house next door decides that the
best way to get rid of the stinky basement smell is to bust out all the casement windows and leave the door open.


Combined with the weed jungle now 4 ft high that has taken over the backyard
has made next door into a lovely place for a cat colony.

New jersay has decided that cats are "free to roam" whichch means "we ain't picking em up pal your on your own and BTW its illeagel to feed them too."
wELL THIS IS GONNA BE AN INTERSTING SPRING

The good news is manda had decided ther is way too much action down there and will hang on the balcony instead of in the jungle.

No laws in NJ for growing obnoxious weeds? Where I live, if a property has obnoxious weeds or out of control grass growth, the town would take care of the unsightly mess and send a clean up bill to the owner/landlord. :thumbs up

Good luck on getting the absentee landlord to clean up his property. I'm sure you will get it resolved.

The homeless kitties are a connected but separate issue. Once the property is cleaned up and secured there are still likely to be a bunch of poor homeless stray cats and ferals. I feel for them; it is not their fault, they are just trying to survive. The fault lies with the irresponsible owners who neglect their animals and refuse to spay and neuter them.

I did some googling and found there seems to be a couple of TNR (trap, neuter, release/return) programs in your area.

We have a similar program run by the Humane Society in Winnipeg and it has been helpful in helping the existing stray and feral cats as well as helping to keep them from reproducing to make the problem bigger. You might want to check into these programs and see if they can be of some help, if you have not all ready done so.

I hear you. I actually just looked into the TNR program here in Winnipeg yesterday after posting here and haven't even had my call returned. I then checked further and learned some interesting things about the program here. It is not what it is cracked up to be here either. It apparently used to be much better but the way it is being run now means a lot of potentially adoptable kitties are PTS. Its a long story but I understand where you are coming from on this.

Great news that you found a rescue that will take them. You've still got your work cut out for you if they are not used to human contact. Any idea how many kitties you're looking at here? Do you have any other neighbors or individuals who might be willing to help with fostering until they are ready to go the the rescue shelter? Good luck and keep us posted.

being in the city the kits at least two in this round are pretty used to begging from people so its not too hard to get them pretty freindly and not running

the folks behind me all the yards are connected feed then too
the trick is to time it so they arent too preggers when you finally get them

ok update 2 of the stray kittens are getting very bold mama miow the breeder is on the slate for a snipping if i get some of the kits used to being handled i can get them to start so far they still prettty skittish

costing me a bit of $$$ though to keep em fed and interested

good news start says tey will committ too two and a frinds friend maybe intereted in 1 or 2

city cats are a lot easier theya are used to peeps deeding them so if you just sit there and put the food around you hunger wins out

They had a bunch of feral cats living under a trailer where I used to work. Some would eventually come near me some wouldn't. I sure got hissed at one day when I grabbed one fast so I could clean off it's infected eye. Between me and another co worker we were feeding them. No idea what happened to them since they tore down the trailer. I didn't keep in touch with anyone after I retired 4 and a half years ago.

any way they loaded u pmama with pankillers so i got a very groggy silent kitty she ate a few bites of dinner and went back to sleep

incision looks good no discharge or bleeding and she was able tohave a strech befor withour a problem hasntpoopedorppedatall but i fig that will happen wothin the next 24

If you gently remind the health dept that young kids don't know to keep their hands out of their mouths, maybe they'll treat it as an urgent case and help get the police on it.

I still think if you brought in the Health Dept they'd put a stop to it. You can't indescriminately lay out poison in most municipalities--it's just too dangerous for kids. You wouldn't have to mention the cats at all...

Mama got hit by a car this afternoon oneof the neighbors just vcame and told me they put her in a box ipicked her up and buries her in my friens yard

Looking not too good for the G man


So Gray man the tomcat of the hood, is quite bad he has managed to drag himself from whevwver he has been hiding out to where he knows I will see him. HE is just about skin and bones now ,and he can hardly move his back legs he ate about 2 hrs ago and groomed him self a bit and laid back down I have been watching him from time to time but he managed to slip away.. WE have 0 money for a vet except to send him off. So now.? I would like to find a way to do it here G man as far as i know has nevr been taken to a vet .

Awe Jim I am sorry about this. Poor Gman...Do you think Dr Lisa (i think that was her name) would kindly come to the house and send G Man off? It would be less than having to take him in...and besides if its his time then sending him off where he is used to things may make it easier.

well g man looks a bit better today still not sure what to do i hate to ask dr press (lisa) its such a sad thing well we will see if he gets a bit better and i will talk to les about getting some free or maybe chaeper care at her vet for hkk as long as he can get around a bit and go back to his sleep plce .

he lost alot of muscle mass in one hind leg though

update on gray man he is waling a llot better and i think he getting fed somewhere else in the am so whetever it was he is slowly recovering i gotta try and save some $$$ for vet and strays though ....
