Jim Hall May 27th, 2009, 07:31 AM So the absentee landlord who owns the 2 story wood house next door decides that the
best way to get rid of the stinky basement smell is to bust out all the casement windows and leave the door open.
Combined with the weed jungle now 4 ft high that has taken over the backyard
has made next door into a lovely place for a cat colony.
New jersay has decided that cats are "free to roam" whichch means "we ain't picking em up pal your on your own and BTW its illeagel to feed them too."
wELL THIS IS GONNA BE AN INTERSTING SPRING
The good news is manda had decided ther is way too much action down there and will hang on the balcony instead of in the jungle.
:shrug::highfive::cat:
oh and there was dog poo by our garbage cans last night
ancientgirl May 27th, 2009, 08:00 AM Oy Jim, sounds like your going to have quite a time.
Mat&Murph May 27th, 2009, 09:05 AM yikes Jim. Doesn't sound like too much fun. Hope it works out for you guys
.nanama May 27th, 2009, 11:07 AM look out for cat scratches on wood around the land that will translate to "cat house party, be there or be square!!"
haha.
yeah... good luck with that lol. hopefully the landlord will realize he's catering to the felines
Jim Hall May 27th, 2009, 11:11 AM lol ahhh well they already got memarked as a food source
onster May 27th, 2009, 02:54 PM yikes!!!
why arent you allowed to feed them???
Maybe you should tell the landlord tho before the kitties get too comfy? He might choose not so pleasant methods to evict them later
hazelrunpack May 27th, 2009, 08:16 PM Nothing like a little complication...
So what's the penalty for feeding them?
Dee-O-Gee May 27th, 2009, 09:34 PM No laws in NJ for growing obnoxious weeds? Where I live, if a property has obnoxious weeds or out of control grass growth, the town would take care of the unsightly mess and send a clean up bill to the owner/landlord. :thumbs up
Good for Manda to chill out on the balcony instead of cat crawling in the jungle. :thumbs up
14+kitties May 27th, 2009, 09:37 PM Oh fun. I feel for you.
Jim Hall May 28th, 2009, 08:58 AM the fine is $75 almost never enforced my lawyer friend is going to find out who / where the lamdlord is and im gonna talk to him of course he speaks almost no english
eventually tje nomeless humans around are gonna realise they have a warm dry place tosleep too
Chris21711 May 28th, 2009, 09:40 AM yikes!!!
why arent you allowed to feed them???
Some towns/cities here have by-laws, that peeps are prohibited from feeding strays :frustrated:
onster May 28th, 2009, 02:22 PM i didnt know that chris. I guess they dont want feral colonies too close to humans but that is a poor way of managing things :frustrated:
Jim..what language does he speak? I ask b/c i know you have a lot of arabic speaking neighbours. I can translate :D
Jim Hall May 28th, 2009, 02:35 PM spanish a good muslim would not let a house get in that condition
onster May 28th, 2009, 02:38 PM lol i suppose so...but who said they were good :p
spanish eh. sorry. only took span 101.
Jim Hall May 28th, 2009, 02:45 PM is ok believe me i will get my point across regardless :yell::laughing:
onster May 28th, 2009, 02:58 PM :laughing: Im sure you will Jim! Make sure to put on your game face :yell::frustrated:
Maybe I should send bunduk to eat all his wiring  Then he'll be sorry!
mikischo May 29th, 2009, 11:19 AM Good luck on getting the absentee landlord to clean up his property. I'm sure you will get it resolved.
The homeless kitties are a connected but separate issue. Once the property is cleaned up and secured there are still likely to be a bunch of poor homeless stray cats and ferals. I feel for them; it is not their fault, they are just trying to survive. The fault lies with the irresponsible owners who neglect their animals and refuse to spay and neuter them.
I did some googling and found there seems to be a couple of TNR (trap, neuter, release/return) programs in your area.
http://network.bestfriends.org/newjersey/news/30541.html
http://www.nj-ara.org/ferals/ferals.html
We have a similar program run by the Humane Society in Winnipeg and it has been helpful in helping the existing stray and feral cats as well as helping to keep them from reproducing to make the problem bigger. You might want to check into these programs and see if they can be of some help, if you have not all ready done so.
Once again, good luck and keep us posted.
Jim Hall May 29th, 2009, 11:33 AM dont believe everthing you belive on the web you will notice that they wrok with a group well this group does not return phone calls or emails
mikischo May 30th, 2009, 06:02 PM dont believe everthing you belive on the web you will notice that they wrok with a group well this group does not return phone calls or emails
I hear you. I actually just looked into the TNR program here in Winnipeg yesterday after posting here and haven't even had my call returned. I then checked further and learned some interesting things about the program here. It is not what it is cracked up to be here either. It apparently used to be much better but the way it is being run now means a lot of potentially adoptable kitties are PTS. Its a long story but I understand where you are coming from on this.
Jim Hall June 3rd, 2009, 01:15 PM wellsome good news the resue group who works with the ACo sais they will take the kits if i get them socialised
mikischo June 3rd, 2009, 10:16 PM wellsome good news the resue group who works with the ACo sais they will take the kits if i get them socialised
Great news that you found a rescue that will take them. You've still got your work cut out for you if they are not used to human contact. Any idea how many kitties you're looking at here? Do you have any other neighbors or individuals who might be willing to help with fostering until they are ready to go the the rescue shelter? Good luck and keep us posted.
Jim Hall June 3rd, 2009, 10:47 PM being in the city the kits at least two in this round are pretty used to begging from people so its not too hard to get them pretty freindly and not running
the folks behind me all the yards are connected feed then too
the trick is to time it so they arent too preggers when you finally get them
Jim Hall June 15th, 2009, 08:50 PM ok update 2 of the stray kittens are getting very bold mama miow the breeder is on the slate for a snipping if i get some of the kits used to being handled i can get them to start so far they still prettty skittish
costing me a bit of $$$ though to keep em fed and interested

growler~GateKeeper June 20th, 2009, 10:34 PM  I would take them all if I:
a) had a cat who likes other cats, Ms Duffy does not like other cats
b) lived in an apt or house that didn't have a 2 cat limit
c) wasn't clear across on the other side of the continent

Jim Hall July 5th, 2009, 12:37 PM city cats are a lot easier theya are used to peeps deeding them so if you just sit there and put the food around you hunger wins out
SandraLM July 5th, 2009, 01:27 PM They had a bunch of feral cats living under a trailer where I used to work. Some would eventually come near me some wouldn't. I sure got hissed at one day when I grabbed one fast so I could clean off it's infected eye. Between me and another co worker we were feeding them. No idea what happened to them since they tore down the trailer. I didn't keep in touch with anyone after I retired 4 and a half years ago.

Jim Hall August 23rd, 2009, 08:06 PM so ig et a vm from leslie she says the trio has fleas wth? i dosed manda and du with revelution 10 days ago took all the bedding the kiys used and tossed it
hazelrunpack August 23rd, 2009, 09:03 PM Fleas or no, they're still cute kits!!
Glad your friend wasn't hurt by the bleach!
chico2 August 24th, 2009, 08:52 AM Awww,a tabby-threesome:lovestruck::lovestruck:
Fleas are bad,but not a disaster, hope the lady does not give up on them because of a few fleas:fingerscr
Jim Hall August 24th, 2009, 04:11 PM so i heard the men in white take thier dog out and come back i go downstairs to where i feed the hoard and lo and behold
thier is a nice fresh warm pile of dog poo hmm wonder where that camefrom?
Jim Hall October 12th, 2009, 08:14 AM so gues what ive found 3 days running down by where i feed the strays
a white powder hmmmm if i catch the *******s it wont be pretty
ancientgirl October 12th, 2009, 08:16 AM I don't know why it continues to surprise me how cruel people can be.
hazelrunpack October 12th, 2009, 08:52 AM Can you gather some of it up and take it to the health dept, Jim? They will be none too pleased if they find out someone is indescriminately leaving poison out. If you gently remind the health dept that young kids don't know to keep their hands out of their mouths, maybe they'll treat it as an urgent case and help get the police on it.
chico2 October 12th, 2009, 08:52 AM Evil creatures for sure:evil:glad you were there to remove it,hopefully no kitties got it on their paws:pray:
Jim Hall October 12th, 2009, 03:08 PM so heres what i did i cleaned up thepowder and pit down someflour so it looks like the other stuff is still there :thumbs up:lightbulb:
hazelrunpack October 12th, 2009, 03:46 PM Only now how will you tell if they've put more down?
Jim Hall October 12th, 2009, 04:17 PM iplamomcleaning every night andmorning and laying moreflourdown
hazelrunpack October 12th, 2009, 04:21 PM That'll work! :thumbs up
Jim Hall October 12th, 2009, 04:27 PM im also gong to make a little note to put out there describing how rat poison works in the hopes that it will make whoever is doing this think a bit
hazelrunpack October 12th, 2009, 04:32 PM I still think if you brought in the Health Dept they'd put a stop to it. You can't indescriminately lay out poison in most municipalities--it's just too dangerous for kids. You wouldn't have to mention the cats at all...
Jim Hall October 12th, 2009, 04:42 PM is a hloiday here columbus day i plan on calling them tomoorow
its not like they are dumpng it all over jsut little piles where the kits hang out
Winston October 12th, 2009, 07:45 PM Doesnt matter does it Jim? What if I had a child young and decided I wanted to play outside on the crass? Catn be a good outcome? they have to do something? even if the cats are not mentioned!! :thumbs up
Winston October 12th, 2009, 07:46 PM Jim I was just thinking maybe you should look up some of the old bylaws in town and see if there is something obscure you could get them slapped with! you know like back in 1940 it was illegile to kill a salamander? or something like that! really throw them for a loop?
Jim Hall October 20th, 2009, 05:50 PM ALL rightie then! The lasytof the hord ms callie is gettimg neuted tomorrow

hazelrunpack October 26th, 2009, 06:45 PM :highfive: for Callie! Glad to hear it went so well!
Are DU and Manda sort of getting used to having temporary visitors?
Jim Hall October 26th, 2009, 06:53 PM thats was another problem manda started getting the runs i thought du would be the stresssed one du just ignores em and manda is the one that gets stresssed out
hazelrunpack October 26th, 2009, 07:21 PM Maybe it reminds her of being out on the street and that stresses her. Poor Manda! :grouphug:
growler~GateKeeper October 26th, 2009, 11:38 PM Glad to hear Callie's recovery went smoothly :thumbs up It's too bad she couldn't have stayed inside & been adopted out, unfortunately there are some cats who never reach that level of comfort after being outside for so long :cat:
:goodvibes: for Manda's pooping issues to clear fast now there's no new kitty stresses.

Jim Hall June 12th, 2010, 11:01 PM Looking not too good for the G man
So Gray man the tomcat of the hood, is quite bad he has managed to drag himself from whevwver he has been hiding out to where he knows I will see him. HE is just about skin and bones now ,and he can hardly move his back legs he ate about 2 hrs ago and groomed him self a bit and laid back down I have been watching him from time to time but he managed to slip away.. WE have 0 money for a vet except to send him off. So now.? I would like to find a way to do it here G man as far as i know has nevr been taken to a vet .
Winston June 13th, 2010, 05:56 AM Awe Jim I am sorry about this. Poor Gman...Do you think Dr Lisa (i think that was her name) would kindly come to the house and send G Man off? It would be less than having to take him in...and besides if its his time then sending him off where he is used to things may make it easier.
Gman is so very fortunate to have you looking out for him! You will be repaid some day my friend! :candle:
chico2 June 13th, 2010, 07:24 AM Jim,just the fact you are concerned about him and feeding him, makes you his angel:angel2:
I agree with Winston, letting him go peacefully to the Bridge,is probably the best for poor G-Man:(
hazelrunpack June 13th, 2010, 03:43 PM Poor guy. :( I hope you can work something out for him!
Dee-O-Gee June 13th, 2010, 09:23 PM Very sad Jim.
Hope Grey man can rest comfortable soon. :grouphug:
growler~GateKeeper June 13th, 2010, 09:45 PM Jim I'm sorry to hear Grey Man isn't doing very well :( :grouphug: Any chance you can nab him for Dr Lisa to come & have a look, atleast help him cross if it's really bad? :goodvibes: :(
Jim Hall June 14th, 2010, 08:53 PM well g man looks a bit better today still not sure what to do i hate to ask dr press (lisa) its such a sad thing well we will see if he gets a bit better and i will talk to les about getting some free or maybe chaeper care at her vet for hkk as long as he can get around a bit and go back to his sleep plce .
he lost alot of muscle mass in one hind leg though
Jim Hall June 18th, 2010, 07:47 PM update on gray man he is waling a llot better and i think he getting fed somewhere else in the am so whetever it was he is slowly recovering i gotta try and save some $$$ for vet and strays though ....
