ancientgirl April 11th, 2009, 05:52 PM I went looking for a scrapbook. I have never done scrapbooking and I wanted to start making something cute for the gang. There's an arts & crafts place near me and I wanted to see if they had some nice inexpensive scrapbooks.
I saw a really nice one, lime green and it was $11.99. I walked around for a while and then I came upon another area that had some Disney and Barbie stuff. I found a Barbie scrapbook for $6.99. Ack! I loved it! But, I had to adapt it for not just the girls but the boys.
So, here is what it looked like before I started.

And this is whats it looks like now.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v516/ancientgirl/Wicked%20Cats%207/021.jpg
I took a black and white sheet from the foam 14+ sent me and I covered the barbie sillouettes. Then I added these pre-made little foam kitties! I had to put the big pink one together, but I think the glue I used isn't right for this. I have to wait to see if the foam is still slipping and sliding.:frustrated: when I bought it it said it's good for any surface, but I may have to start all over.
I still have to do a strip to cover the back, but I think so far I'm very pleased.
14+kitties April 11th, 2009, 05:57 PM  Funny! I see the box I sent the stuff down to you holding your new scrapbook!! Even part of my addy.
I love what you've done to make the scrapbook personal for the kitties! Great start!! The fun foam is actually very easy to work with and make neat things. Great!! Keep on going now!!! :lovestruck:
ancientgirl April 11th, 2009, 06:25 PM Oh no:laughing: As you can see, the box is serving as my craft table.
The foam is great. I found my X-acto knife and it was really helpful with scoring the foam so I can get a good cut. I found some pictures I can use as a start, so hopefully the cover will be properly dried and I can put the plastic cover on and start working on some pages.
I'm going to have to look at some better glue. Something with more precision and that dries faster.
Dee-O-Gee April 11th, 2009, 07:39 PM I LOVE what you did the book ancientgirl :lovestruck: Kitties & fish, way too cute :)
It's amazing what a little bit of thought and creativity can do :lightbulb:
Are you a south :pawprint: too?

Thanks! It was so inexpensive, I had to make it work. I knew I'd be able to use some of the foam to alter it a bit. Those little kitty cut outs did the job nicely too. I have to do the back tomorrow, and start on a page or two.
I'm a righty. The cat seemed to work better at that angle. :D
Dee-O-Gee April 11th, 2009, 08:00 PM I did one scrap book so far myself. It was addicting
It turned out very nice but it was alot of work. Overall, the album is pleasing to look at.
Good luck righty :thumbs up
ancientgirl April 11th, 2009, 08:32 PM I can see how it can be addicting. There were so many neat things to do the pages with.
Winston April 11th, 2009, 08:53 PM AG you should check out a dollar store if you have one close by! they have tons of stuff for scrapbooking. As for the glue...have you ever seen those white out correctors? well they have the same thing and its 2 sided tape! I hardly ever use glue now! they hace those scissors that cut out edges, and even punches for holes, oh and stamps...like ink stamps! cool stuff!
I even save my old greeting cards and cut stuff out of them for scrapbooking!!
I love the cover! it looks great! you could make a scrapbook for each kitty and go from the time you got them till now! :thumbs up
Cant wait to see the final project!
Dee-O-Gee April 11th, 2009, 09:46 PM Winstons right--the 2 sided tape thing works great :lightbulb:
What I did is I bought a pack of greeting card stock paper (really cheap) and made up little sayings on a word document in different color fonts. I printed out the page then cut out each title, announcement, etc. individually and 2 sided taped it below or around the picture.
The bonus with the card stock paper is that you can get a pack of like 100 sheets really cheap any only have to use a couple. This will make for more scrap booking projects not to mention a nice card :thumbs up
hazelrunpack April 11th, 2009, 10:10 PM AG, that's soooo cute!!! :highfive: Good job! That kitty is just the cat's meow...
The gang is going to love having their own scrapbook! :cloud9:
TacoGrl April 11th, 2009, 11:35 PM OMG!
Thx for getting me thinking of pulling my supplies out again :frustrated:
I used to be sooooooo into scrapbooking that I HAD to stop it or quit my job...money won! There are soooo many wonderful projects (yours is great btw :thumbs up) that you can do with a little imagination and you will soon find yourself looking at EVERYTHING as potential scrapbook material...good luck! :mwaha:
ancientgirl April 12th, 2009, 10:54 AM Thanks guys! I'm really enjoying this!
Winston, the dollar store I had near me closed a few months ago, so I'll have to do a search to see if there are any close to me I haven't seen. I'll have to do some investigating!
I did manage to get some double-sided tape. I realized this morning I'd need some and thankfully the CVS across the street is open today.
I love the idea of a book for each cat. I saw some smaller scrapbooks at the store so I could do a small one for them once I'm done with the bigger one. I have to order a lot of pictures though.
I started the two pages I did today from some I had left over from an order I made on Shutterfly. But I really need more. I have so many photos of them, it'll take forever to weed through them all.
Anyhoo, here are a few more photos of what I did today.
Here's the back. I realized after I took the photo, the Barbie logo was still there, so I just took a purple jumping kitty and put it there.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v516/ancientgirl/Scrapbooks/First%20-%20The%20Gang/006.jpg
Bah! can you tell I'm not very observant today? LOL. I was so excited about getting a picture I didn't realize I left a piece of the back of the foam kitty. Ignore please!:o

I liked using those little foamies and jewel pieces.
And as you can see, I had a helper.:lovestruck:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v516/ancientgirl/Scrapbooks/First%20-%20The%20Gang/005.jpg
This is all fun and very exciting. I can't wait to get more pictures so I can keep doing pages. But right now I'm going to be slightly stalled. I can order some photo's this week so hopefully I'll get them by next weekend. I may have a few more photo's I can use.
I do like the idea of card stock, and buying greeting cards.
One question. The pages in the scrapbook are white and a heavy stock paper. I took that page out and added the pages I did. Are you supposed to leave that page in, as sort of support? Should I put it back in, between the two pages?
LavenderRott April 12th, 2009, 11:10 AM You all would just die if you could look out my living room window. I live right across the street from a scrapbook shop!
I haven't been in it yet - I am sure I would go broke in a minute.
Winston April 12th, 2009, 11:14 AM Its up to you AG what you want to do! I leave the harder paper and stick mine on it..like you said it makes it sturdyer! )sp???_
If you dont want to order photos what I did was I new where I could use a color printer and I printed mine out on the card stock! Great way to make your own greeting cards! Tons of free downloads off the net for cards too! It can get expensive printing them on a printer too because of the color cartridges!
I love what you have done so far! I made memory book of my Dad after he passed and its a great way to go back and cheeer myself up! Its an awesome way to show someone you care and they make great Christmas presents too!
Keep it coming I love it so far! Nices pics of the gang and little miss kiska!
Cindy
14+kitties April 12th, 2009, 12:01 PM That looks wonderful!!! Looks like you are having a marvelous time playing. :D
I was going to mention what Winston did. If you have a printer it may be cheaper for you to print out just the pics you want to use. I know you can get Kodak photo paper fairly cheaply. Of course colour ink isn't cheap. I print the pics I use for woodburning. Other than that they are all stored on my comp.
Love the little foam animals and jewels too! Great job! Glad you are enjoying yourself! ;):grouphug:
ancientgirl April 12th, 2009, 12:18 PM I have a color printer, but it's been ages since I have added ink to it, because it's just so expensive. I'll have to see which is less expensive, to buy ink and print my own pictures, or just order them online.
I'm really enjoying this. I managed to also find a really good large board to use as a good flat surface. I hadn't realized I could use the pullout cutting board that was inside the litter cabinet my friends hubby gave me. It's perfect. I can even use it to put my laptop on. I don't know why I never thought of this before.
But I can't wait to keep going. The little foam things are wonderful. I can probably even use some cookie cutters to make more cut outs too, and I can probably buy some good markers to make my own little designs on them. The possibilities are endless!
Love4himies April 12th, 2009, 03:26 PM Wow, great job, AG :thumbs up. I think you improved the cover by putting on the kitties and fishes
ancientgirl April 12th, 2009, 03:45 PM LOL thanks! I really liked the pink and black dots, and the abstract frame. Of course, I couldn't pass up the price. I'm glad I was able to make it work. Next time I'll look for clearance stuff, and maybe I can also alter them.
ancientgirl April 12th, 2009, 05:54 PM You all would just die if you could look out my living room window. I live right across the street from a scrapbook shop!
I haven't been in it yet - I am sure I would go broke in a minute.
I believe it. I never really used to stop off at the scrapbook section at the craft store, because I never really understood what all went into it. But holy cow! There are so many neat things!
hazelrunpack April 12th, 2009, 07:29 PM I have a color printer, but it's been ages since I have added ink to it, because it's just so expensive. I'll have to see which is less expensive, to buy ink and print my own pictures, or just order them online.
I tried ordering out, printing my own, and ordering from Wal*Mart. Wal*Mart won paws down--if I print more than 100, I can get them for 15 cents apiece within the hour. It costs me about 20 cents if I do them here, more if I ordered on line if you factor in postage plus it takes longer.
ancientgirl April 12th, 2009, 07:39 PM I looked at Shutterfly. If I get 4x6, I can get them for 15cents a piece. 5x7 are 99cents. I downloaded some photo's on to my shutterfly account. I can always order two different sizes which I think might make things more interesting.
I also could other pictures on a CD and print them at CVS or Target.
I'm not even sure my color printer will still even work. I haven't used it in over 4 years.
rainbow April 12th, 2009, 07:46 PM AG, I love the job you are doing. :thumbs up
This is something that I've never done. :o I should have started this years ago as I know I would have really enjoyed it but now I have absolutely no patience.
hazelrunpack April 12th, 2009, 07:54 PM Probably your inkjets are all clogged up, AG. :frustrated: Seems like you have to use them every day or they need cleaning. After 4 years, they probably need professional cleaning.
Does shutterfly charge shipping and handling, too?
I really like what you've done so far! :highfive: Really cute!! Can't wait to see the finished books!
And the picture of Kiska in the basket is just too cute... :cloud9:
ancientgirl April 12th, 2009, 08:01 PM Rainbow, I don't have much patience either, but I find it fun just playing with the photo's and all the other stuff. It's hard though not to over embellish. I found myself holding back on putting too much stuff on it.
Hazel, at this point, it may just be better for me to just get a new printer. I have two printers and both are 4 in ones. Except one is B&W and the one in question is the color. This one cost me $100 about 6 years ago, and it might cost me that much to fix it, knowing how much these computer places charge for simple things.
TacoGrl April 12th, 2009, 08:07 PM I have an HP Deskjet 3940 that I got from Wal-Mart for $49...it prints in colour and does a wonderful job printing pics on photo paper (pretty fast too)...I use Epson photo paper that I sometimes actually find at the dollar store (Dollar Giant). I know mine is about a year old and they have a newer model now, but sometimes the cheap printers are the best. Wal-Mart also sells a two pack of ink for this one at $35 (1 of each colour and b&w in the pack)
ancientgirl April 12th, 2009, 08:22 PM I keep seeing these commercials for this Kodak printer. I might have to look into that. It looks like cost wise, it might be a good idea. But yeah, you can get a pretty decent printer now for less than $100. It's the ink that kills you.:frustrated:
Luvmypitgirls April 16th, 2009, 04:49 AM AG, the scrapbook looks great!
I keep seeing awesome scrapbook stuff at Costco and keep thinking I should try doing one, but right now my canvas is my house, so perhaps one day when I'm not painting and installing floors and fixing plumbing and doing baseboards and crown I'll give one a shot. Your's is inspiring!
ancientgirl April 16th, 2009, 08:06 AM Thanks!
I'm realizing there are many things I can use for these projects. A friend of mine said to just look around in all the boxes I still have unpacked. She's right. I have things I can probably use, and I save a lot of my cards, so I can use some of those too.
It sounds like you do have a lot on your plate, but I found doing this really relaxing! Maybe you can start with a small one, and do it as a sort of a way to wind down after a busy day of home improvement!:D
pbpatti April 16th, 2009, 09:36 AM AG, how talented you are! I love how you have changed the covers, I am artistically challenged and Love to see what others can do. pbp
ancientgirl April 16th, 2009, 10:33 AM AG, how talented you are! I love how you have changed the covers, I am artistically challenged and Love to see what others can do. pbp
Thanks! I'm glad I was able to make that work. I loved the color, pink with the black dots, and the price was not to be beaten!
I think anybody can be creative! You just have to sit down and get your hands to work. :D It's nice that others like what you do, but I think the most important thing is, for you to like it and enjoy yourself while you are doing it.
I just ordered some photo's online. Mind you, it's not even a drop in the bucket compared to all the photo's I would like. LOL, I'm going through my folders little by little, but I got a pretty decent deal.
I ordered around 77 on shutterfly and they were 15cents a piece. So with delivery, it's cost me around $21. I think that might be cheaper than buying the ink for my printer and just doing it myself. I am though looking into getting one of those Kodak photo printers. That might be actually worth getting. But for now, this will work.
I should be getting those next week some time, and so in the meantime, I'll be looking around some boxes of stuff I have for things I can use.:D
14+kitties April 16th, 2009, 10:42 AM LMPG - you should be taking pics of your reno projects as you go and then doing a scrapbook on that. Before and after is always neat to look at.
AG - You can make little ribbons out of some of the yarn I sent you. The foam can be cut into any shape instead of going and buying more. The internet is a great place to download patterns for things you can cut out and use. You can use some of the seed beads to sprinkle around the pages. Even some of the beading wire/fishing line can be used in creative ways. Just trying to save you some dough. ;)

That's a great idea about the reno project!
OH, I already realized I can use some little cookie cutters I have to make shapes with the foam! LOL.
And I may be able to use the double sided tape and sprinkle some beads on them to make interesting borders. :D I'm going to experiment with that glue I got and see if I use a brush and spread it around, I can also sprinkle some glitter on it. I'm sure that will work too. I've also got some remnants of old clothes and fabric I may be able to do stuff with.
I think you are right in that you have to think outside the box. I've got some pictures left I can still use until I get the ones I ordered. So this weekend I can start on a couple of more pages.:D
Winston April 16th, 2009, 01:52 PM AG I saw a really pretty picture frame made by someone out of buttons! God it was cool! Good way to recycle your old buttons~!
Even the pic frames are so cheap at the dollar store you could decorate them any old way! Love your work so far! keep it coming! :thumbs up
Arent you glad you started this thread now?
Cindy

OMGosh that's a wonderful idea! I can get some old buttons and just make like a little border with them around pictures or the pages!
Keep the ideas coming people!
I think we should all start posting our projects! We can just do it on this thread. We can get ideas from each other.:D
Sylvie April 16th, 2009, 02:05 PM Oh AG what a great job you have done. :thumbs up
I have been procratinating for over a year and still have not started anything. You are giving me a push.
Such great ideas just keep pouring in. I will keep reading this thread as I have already learned quite a lot from you.
chico2 April 16th, 2009, 04:45 PM A-G,congrats on that beautiful scrap-book,I,like LMPG are doing big stuff most of the time, like painting the house inside or other stuff that needs doing, maybe one day I'll do a scrap-book,love yours:thumbs up
You are really creative:lovestruck:
ancientgirl April 16th, 2009, 05:29 PM Thanks Chico! I've been thinking all day about all of the things I can look for and use. I have a few old calendars I have saved and I can use some of the pages as scrapbook pages and add to that. I think they are about the same size.

14+, what a fun idea, wish I had thought of that when I started doing my reno's, I'd have volumes of scrapbooks by now
AG, I like your idea of starting a small one for winding down at the end of a busy day of home improvement too, I'm going to Costco tomorrow, perhaps I'll take another look at their scrapbook selection.:)

When I was looking in the craft store I saw they had many smaller ones. At least you can start something there. It's not so big so you wouldn't feel like it's a huge chore to drag stuff out or anything. I'd like to do a small one for each of my little gang members.
ancientgirl April 19th, 2009, 11:21 AM I've ordered more pictures but I won't get them until this week. But I had a couple left from my last order that I thought I'd work with.
I made this page yesterday. I really love the patter of this fabric. It's actually a sleeping shirt I had but never wore because it constantly clings! So I thought the fabric might make a nice backdrop.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v516/ancientgirl/Scrapbooks/First%20-%20The%20Gang/001-1.jpg
I thought it came out really nice, but the fabric kept wrinkling and just didn't look right when I put the page in the sleeve. I'll have to cut the fabric out better and use the swatches. I'm thinking I can just use the swatches and either tape or blue them on the page. I can get fabric glue and experiment.
Anyway, I took the pictures off this morning and took the page out. I decided to redo the page and this is what I came up with.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v516/ancientgirl/Scrapbooks/First%20-%20The%20Gang/008.jpg
This is Kiska and Vlad. I really love this photo. It's one of my favorites.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v516/ancientgirl/Scrapbooks/First%20-%20The%20Gang/009.jpg
This is Maks and Oksana. I don't know how she even allowed him to be so close to her, but it's a sweet little picture.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v516/ancientgirl/Scrapbooks/First%20-%20The%20Gang/010.jpg
The background are two goodie bags I had. I'd bought them thinking they were tissue paper then opened the package and realized they were bags. I liked the pattern and so decided to keep them to use for something. I think I like this page better. It looks happier.
chico2 April 19th, 2009, 03:32 PM Very nice A-G,LOVE the pic of Kiska and Vlad:lovestruck:
ancientgirl April 19th, 2009, 03:41 PM Chico, I got so lucky when I took that picture. She's only grown a little bit since that picture
onster April 21st, 2009, 12:57 PM just gotta say that I love it!!!
Great job :highfive:
ancientgirl April 21st, 2009, 01:01 PM Thanks. It's so much fun doing this.
14+kitties April 21st, 2009, 05:30 PM Love that page! Very bright and cheery. :cloud9: Those are a couple of my fav pics of your gang too. :thumbs up
ancientgirl April 21st, 2009, 06:00 PM Thanks 14+. It really is so cheery! I got the photo's I ordered from shutterfly. I got them really fast too, so this weekend I'll be doing more stuff! :D
ancientgirl April 26th, 2009, 02:07 PM My friend Lisa got me some lovely background pages for my birthday. Since I had ordered some photos from Shutterfly and got them last week, I decided to work on a few pages this morning.
Two of Czari. One a close up.
The third I wanted to make a page for Oksana's little certificate from when she won that pet of the month on the free pet projects site. The background is from the pages 14+ sent me. It went very nicely with the certificate!
ancientgirl April 26th, 2009, 02:10 PM Here are a couple with Maks and Kiska. These are from when they were around 4 or 5 months old.
chico2 April 26th, 2009, 03:40 PM Those are great A-G,you are very talented, the scrap-book will be great to have:thumbs up
ancientgirl April 26th, 2009, 03:46 PM Thanks Chico! I'm really enjoying this little project. I think in the end it will be really lovely.
Magicwildwolf69 April 26th, 2009, 09:59 PM ag i have to confuses something. i liked your pages you did so much i went out to some of my craft stores and found some scrap books on sale and bought a bunch of other stuff i want to do my own scrap book too. i really had no idea how to do one till i saw your pages. Hope you don't mind :o
i have to still go to walmart i need some glue and stuff but im so excited my FH is staring at me like i grew a second head.
hazelrunpack April 26th, 2009, 11:11 PM It's coming along wonderfully, AG! :thumbs up How many more pages do you have left to fill the book?
I like the way you've added the names to the pages. Very creative! Especially Maks and Kiska's :D
14+kitties April 27th, 2009, 07:15 AM Great job AG! Love the pics and everything!! :thumbs up
Does your scrapbook have the posts you can make bigger? That way you can just add more pages to the book instead of going out and getting more scrapbooks. My daughter got me a wooden one a few years back I used for my greenhouse. It has the steel posts you can add more posts to. It's great if you want to keep the theme the same.
ancientgirl April 27th, 2009, 07:35 AM Magicwildwolf69 - I'm glad I was able to inspire you. My pages are pretty simple compared to what I've seen out there, but I'm just learning and really this is the first I've ever done. You should go to some websites and see all the really lovely ideas there are out there!
I'm finding that I'll look at something and wonder how I can incorporate it into my scrapbook
Hazel - Thanks! I was trying to figure out how to save some letters and then realized I could use that last K for Maks. I think I have maybe 8 more pages left in the book. I haven't counted. I should though.
14+ - Thanks! It was your first pages that really got me so interested in this so a huge hug and thank you to you again for sending me that box!
Yes, this one has little posts that you can undo and add more pages. I imagine at some point you'd have to get longer posts though. I'd like to just finish this one and then buy smaller ones, and do an individual scrapbook for each of them. :D
