Smartest Dogs: Moscow Stray Dogs

April 10th, 2009, 06:24 PM

In Moscow stray dogs have learned how to use the subway system to travel from their home in abandoned industrial parks to the downtown center where they scavenge and "hunt" for food. They will rest and relax on the subway systems, and know to enter the first or last cart which is the least busy. They also can tell where to get off by the length of time they spend on the train.
The dogs have also learned to cross streets on green lights and like to play chicken with the subway doors jumping through just as the doors almost close.

Videos on the link even show one dog practicing how to use the escalator through trial and error.
Also from the same site a woman who picks up stray dogs in Kiev, Ukraine. She has allowed her quality of life to fall in order to care for the dogs who she lives with in a homeless squat. She goes into town to beg for money for the dogs and takes home any strays she finds.
