Baby Teeth

Hi everyone!
I have a question regarding extra teeth that my puppy has. When he was neutered in January the vet removed 5 baby teeth ...4 k9's and one at the bottom. While all his adult teeth seem to be grown in already, he still has his 2 front baby teeth overlapping his adult ones and I just noticed he has another extra tooth @ the bottom. At the time of neutering the vet knew that my dogs 2 front baby teeth hadnt fell out yet, but he didnt remove them b/c he said they would fall out on their own. It's been a few months now and they still havent fallen out.
Should my dog get these 3 teeth taken out?? Is it safe to put a puppy under anasthesia again????

I'm sorry, I've never actually heard of having a vet remove puppy teeth during a neutering unless they were a problem?? (To the other posters, is this normal?)

I would say NO do not have these last few puppy teeth removed. It can take a while for some breeds and some individual puppies to lose their teeth. If you're concerned, have your vet look at them just to make sure they're okay, but other than that I'd personally just let nature take it's course. Ensuring that your puppy has enough to chew on helps remove teeth too.

I don't think that putting any dog under is a great thing if it can be avoided.

Yes, the baby teeth that he got removed during the neutering were a problem...they were overlapping the adult teeth that had grown in.

If the teeth aren't bothering him or screwing up his bite, you might be able to wait till he has another procedure that requires anesthesia and just having them removed then. But you should probably at least talk to the vet about it to make sure there's no functional problem due to the extra teeth--if it's messing up his bite at all, it might be best to have them removed sooner than later. I don't think that they'll fall out on their own if it's been a couple of months since his adult teeth came in. Typically they loosen and fall out at the same time the new ones are coming in.

Hi, I've got a Shih Tzu that I had this problem with... when she was spayed they removed 7 baby teeth (at $11 per tooth!?)... left a few in the front because her adult teeth were not in front yet.. she had 2 rows of teeth in some places so those are the ones they removed... anyway, the front baby teeth did eventually fall out.. many months later, not sure exactly how long.. just noticed one day that they were gone. My vet had told me that they wanted to wait and if she had another procedure that required aesthesia they would take care of it then, but otherwise it was not worth the risk of putting her under to remove those teeth. So, I don't know if it's considered 'normal' to have to remove a dog's milk teeth but I know it happens... good luck!
