Help Naming Collar "Business"

March 6th, 2009, 08:10 PM
Well, I think this might be happening after all! Yikes! I had emailed a few of my collars just for fun to some co-workers who also love dogs and unbeknownst to me, one of my co-workers is friends with a woman who runs a local boutique. She showed my collars to her, and the woman wants to try selling them! So my co-worker just told that to me yesterday and the woman from the boutique is going to call me next week to go over details and see if it's something I want to do! She has some kind of show at the end of March that she wanted me to have some collars made for as well. So I'm not entirely sure I can take something like this on, but figured I might as well make up a few for her show thing at the end of March to see if there's interest and such. I can't handle anything too high of volume (I already work a good 60 hours/week), but if it's just a few here and there, it would be kind of cool!

But anyway, I would need to come up with a "business" name and create a lable for my collars. I'm not worried about the label, I know a place that I can have them made in bulk for a good price and can then sew them onto the collars. But I don't know what to use for a name and then how to make sure that name is available for use. As someone mentioned in my other collar thread, something with PB&J would be fun for a name! But I'm not sure what to use.

PB&J Creations
PB&J Collection
Design by PB&J

And then how do I know if that name can be used or not? I might be getting totally ahead of myself as I'm not even sure if I'm going to do this yet. I don't have much time at all, and I'm still very new to sewing and so would rather get more experience in first. But at this point, I don't think it would hurt to make up a dozen or so for her and see what she thinks and if there's any interest. It wouldn't mean I'm committing to anything yet or am committing to a certain volume or whatever. She would just put whatever I make out on the shelf. My Mom is an accountant and does my taxes so I know she'll know how to handle it all from a tax perspective as well. Ugh, I don't know if I want to take this on or not! Yikes!

How about PB&J Designs?
To do a name search try this-

I don't know if it will work. Canada's is easier to find.

And this is a fantastic idea for you!!!

CONGRATS!!! Will you take orders? ;)

I like PB&J Creations....or Collection.

Thanks guys! :) I think I'm leaning towards PB&J Creations or PB&J Designs at this point. Simple and to the point. :) It doesn't show up on that link either, so that's good. :) I did a general search for PB&J and a handful of business names around the US popped up, so it seems to work. Thank you for that!

But of course, if anyone would like one, I can definitely try to make one up for you as well. I just need time to get more supplies and I have to get samples made by the end of March for this woman first. :) But before all that even, I have to PRACTICE more! LOL! Once I'm all set, I can post pics of my fabrics and ribbons and you can let me know what you want and in what size. :) I just ordered various Japanese Import Fabrics that are really cute and fun and I got more ribbon last week as well. I picked up several yards of regular cotton fabrics as well a few days ago too. I got it all for just my dogs, but should have plenty left over to make several more collars from it all as well. The ribbon and regular cotton fabrics are pretty inexpensive, and the Janpanese and Asian Import fabrics are more expensive and are very limited in supply. Most came in only 1/2 yard so I can get maybe 4-5 collars out of each fabric. So it might have to be first come, first serve for some of the patterns. :)

My vote goes to PB&J Designs too.. Its catchy! That is sooo cool that someone is interested in carrying them!! A person on my flyball team makes collars and sells them (10$ of the proceeds to a local rescue too) and another person makes Jammies!! I swear I would have enough collars, leashes and Jammies to fill a rubbermaid! I cant wait to see your designs!! If you do decide to sell some I would love to get one! They are amazing!

I like PB&J Designs, sounds fun and sophisticated :) make sure you think the pricing through and incorporate your labour time in the price as well, a lot of people often just price the materials. Good luck!!

Personally I like PB&J Designs best :D I think it's because 'design' reminds me of 'designer'.. so designer collars for dogs! They are wonderful, I think I might have to buy some in the future because they look great! :goodvibes:

I like PB&J Designs better also.

When my husband went into business the attorney did a name search for us. We gave him three options and he began with the first name on the list. Years ago he had a smaller part time business and for that we went to the county seat and spent an hour or so going through the books of registered business names in order to find out if the one he wanted was available.

Here's what I ended up going with. :) Pretty plain and simple, but that's okay since these are just for fun for now anyway. :)

Molly has a "Bark and Fitz" collar that looks similar... check out their website to see - its a high end pet supply boutique store in Canada.
Watch out- you just may have to quit your day job to keep up with the demand from the members alone! :D

March 26th, 2009, 11:47 AM

You are very talented and I wish you the best of success - you deserve it!

I know you will do very well...and once you do - don't forget about your friends here at pets.

Once you are in a magazine - I can point and say "hey I know her....":)

Hard to pick a favorite here. But, I really love the first one, with the green stripes. The polka dots are very nice too. They're all gorgeous!
