Hi All, I have a friend who is looking to surrender his beagle to a shelter due to severe separation anxiety. This is clearly a case of mismatched breed to environment. He lives in an apt and was not aware of the condition until after he adopted the dog. He got it from a family and they never gave any indication of the condition of the pup. The pup is almost a year old now and can not be left alone and will be destructive in a crate/hurt himself and defecates /destroys things when left out of the crate. He's tried the Remedy Calm and Citronella collar. He can no longer keep the pup as he received notice from the condo board to evict the dog due to noise issues. The dog barks and howls non stop and its very loud.
I have called around to the rescues and they are full. I also called the animal services and spca and they indicated that likely with his behavioral issues he might be returned and if he is returned more than once he's put to sleep. I'm at wits end trying to save this dog. They recommend trying to find a home outside of the shelter. Should I try to post it on Craigslist or Kijiji and try to find a family that is home often and that would have the right environment to help with the issues?
