February 5th, 2009, 11:27 PM

Hope you find your dog soon!!!!!

What else have you done so far? (other than post on here that is)

February 6th, 2009, 06:37 AM
I searched for about 15 hours
I put up 60 posters in all surrounding areas
I notified the spca
I notified berger blanc.

February 6th, 2009, 06:56 AM
Hi Naomi - I drop by the Montreal SPCA 3 X a week. I will check for you if you cannot get there. Will you go today? If so, please bring them a picture -this is very important.

Good luck.

February 6th, 2009, 07:01 AM
What a beautiful dog! You might want to notify local adoption agencies in case someone finds her and drops her off there. I know work from that area of montreal..there is also animatch and rosie animal adoption. good luck!

February 6th, 2009, 07:58 AM
I will try all of these.
Thank you again.

February 6th, 2009, 08:02 AM
left them a picture yesterday, passed by 3 times, will go again today.
thank you so much.

February 6th, 2009, 08:33 AM
:pray:you find your little Crystal,she's adorable:fingerscr:goodvibes:

February 6th, 2009, 08:52 AM
Was she chipped?

Call, email, fax, etc all vets in your area!! If she gets hurt and someone finds her thats the first place she is likely to go. (unfortunately JRTs running loose often find trouble)

Also if someone finds her and thinks she is cute and decides to keep her they will likely take her to a vet to have a check up and shots.

Still hoping for you!

February 6th, 2009, 12:05 PM
No she wasn't chipped.
I thought I was overprotective.
I still can't beleive this happened
Thanks again,

February 6th, 2009, 03:56 PM
You must be frantic. The only thing I can add is to get in the face of everyone you meet in the neighbourhood and hand them a poster. Sometimes people don't read posters (or they tear them down, or the city does). Luckily the weather will be mild this weekend, more people outside, more eyes looking.

Make sure to put REWARD in big letters (without mentioning the amount) and 'no questions asked'. Sometimes people put 'is on medication' - I imagine sometimes it isn't true but it may be an incentive to give her up if someone decides to keep her.

I'm not sure if you are in Berger Blanc's territory. If so, stay right on top of them, go often. I have seen tagged animals there, up for adoption.

Try not to despair, just keep at it.

What a sweet face. I hope you will be looking into it soon.

February 6th, 2009, 06:51 PM
It is so heart felt, everybody's concern,
she was spotted twice, yesterday morning & at 4:00 today I received a call saying the security of TMR spotted her in their lot at 7am, but for some reason the poster that I left there the night before was not put up yet.
So they tried to catch her unsuccessfully.
I could have been there in literally 1 minute.
I am going to leave this morning at 5am to look again.
It seems she's spotted in the morning, hope she makes it through another night.
Tonight won't be as cold as last night.
I'm surprised she made it through last night & had the energy to get away from a person.
She really freezes outside & jumps into my coat, even with her coat on.
Thank you all.

February 6th, 2009, 09:19 PM
Good news!
She'll be hungry, don't forget to take along something she loves. If no-one is chasing her, she'll probably sleep in the vicinity. You know, usually they are tougher than we think.
Please update us as soon as you can.
Lots of good vibes coming your way.

February 6th, 2009, 10:25 PM
It's good to hear that she is staying close by. :thumbs up

Good luck in the morning. :fingerscr :goodvibes:

February 7th, 2009, 07:13 AM
Out since 5:30
just came home to warm up.
leaving again momentarily.
Thanks all

February 7th, 2009, 07:31 AM
Nope. Not allowed to lose hope. Have you thought of knocking on doors in the vicinity of where she was last seen? Sorry, I don't know that area at all.

Gee, maybe we should all come up there and do one of those sweeps.

February 7th, 2009, 09:03 AM
naomi,so sorry:sad:Knowing JRT's to be very smart pups, her survival-instinct is in full gear and I:pray:her intelligence will tell her to go towards people for help:fingerscr:fingerscr

February 7th, 2009, 10:27 AM
Just wanted to add more :goodvibes: to the mix! Good luck, Naomi!! Come home, Crystal!

February 7th, 2009, 11:55 AM
will be out again soon

February 7th, 2009, 12:57 PM

That is a great idea. :thumbs up

I am leaving again,

They calledlast night it was the wrong dog.
Every time the phone rings, my heart drops.
Poor Crystal, I feel so bad.

February 8th, 2009, 10:06 AM

February 10th, 2009, 04:33 PM
Feb 10th,

Still no luck. few calls, I don't beleive the people.
Sicko's out there.
One person called said they found my dog & then hung up.
Thank again everyone

February 10th, 2009, 04:57 PM
Don't give up! All the time I was looking for Sable I only had one prank call but a lot of the time people are just trying to be helpful and if they see a dog at all they are calling...Sable is a shepherd/Elkhound and I got calls on border collies, king shepherds, Husky,...people really don't know the breeds..they just see a dog alone.

February 12th, 2009, 11:12 PM
what are the chances after a week.
can anyone give me an honest opinion or a real success story.

February 13th, 2009, 01:50 AM
I'd say the odds are still pretty good. Lots of dogs have been found and reunited with their owners after much longer times. A while back there was a loose dog that was really scared and they finally caught her after months :thumbs up.

Lots of hugs for you, this is all of ours worst nightmare :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:.

Good luck :goodvibes: :fingerscr :goodvibes:.

February 13th, 2009, 06:17 AM
Thank you,

February 13th, 2009, 07:15 AM

there is one example, last night a sheltie that had been missing since feb 1 in my area was finally caught (timid and would run from rescuers) owners are so relieved.

February 13th, 2009, 07:41 AM
Our Gracie has been missing for 38 days now, but we know she's alive (was spotted on Tuesday - see my Lost Lab/Shepherd in Brampton thread) and we're just grateful that she's survived through the horrible cold weather. So a week really isn't long (for the dog - it's a real long time for you, I know ).

Gracie & Crystal COME HOME

February 13th, 2009, 03:50 PM
Naomi,a week is really not a long time,it probably feels like a year for you:sad:
I know pups have been found after much longer time,so don't give up:fingerscr
If someone has her,I hope they will do the right thing and contact you:fingerscr

February 13th, 2009, 09:25 PM
Again, all I can say is thank you,
It is so cold out there, I can't bear to think she is out there.
I am going out early in the morning again,
Thank you all for not letting me lose hope;

February 13th, 2009, 09:45 PM
Naomi, did you manage to distribute posters at vets in your area? I'll be in the area of NDG and Westmount tomorrow...I'd be more than happy to get some posters at several vets there as well as at 3 very popular pet supply stores. Can you fax me a copy of a poster? I can pm you a number.

February 14th, 2009, 08:26 AM
Naomi, what about putting posters on parked cars, even in the nearest mall where she might have been seen,I know that would involve hundreds of posters, but people usually look at anything stuck on their wind-shield:confused:

February 14th, 2009, 08:43 AM
putting posters on parked cars

I think this is a brilliant idea. You could print half-page posters to reduce costs and waste.

February 14th, 2009, 06:22 PM
I have distributed 5000 flyers in the publi sac(it is going to be sent out in a bag with all stor flyers. We won't talk about what the cost was, really I only needed 30,000 to hand out to all the surrounding areas.
Today, my husband & I went door to door and put out another 150.00.
I am offering a $500.00 reward, so incase someone wants to keep the dog, it will be enough money to buy their own.
But I like the ideas of cars, however, I just don't know wher to look anymore.
I received a phone call saying whe was seen clear across town on Thursday.
I don't know if I should follow the lead, can they really go that far.
Again, Thank you,

February 14th, 2009, 07:14 PM
You know, Poodletalk knows people in the media, I wonder if she might have any ideas in that direction. Have you tried to get something into your local newspaper? The publi-sac idea is genius.
It must be difficult to know which leads to follow up on, but I think you have to take them at face value. JRs are pretty fast, aren't they?
Poor girl, I hope you catch a break soon.

February 15th, 2009, 02:08 AM
Nami...Yes they really can go that far...Just after Christmas a little shiztu was found about ten miles north of where she went missing in Whitby...she was found in a barn to the north by a farmer so don't underestimate where they can get to.

February 15th, 2009, 02:17 AM
Shes a terrier. A Jack russell Terrier. She can definatly travel that far.

I hope you findher!

February 15th, 2009, 08:11 AM
I cannot see anyone ignoring her if she goes to someones house or is running around on the street, she is a small JRT and very pretty,I believe someone has her, hopefully will see a poster and realize she is very much loved by her owners.
Someone I know, kept a Shi-Tzu(sp?)because she was skinny, dirty and really hungry, thinking she had been abused...she only called HS to see if a Tzu had been reported missing.

February 15th, 2009, 09:25 AM
I have a running in the Gazette. I am going to post in the town post & try other municipalities. so many posters that I put up have been removed.
I also beleive she will only go to a dog person, someone who lowers themselves or pretends to offer food.

February 15th, 2009, 10:32 AM
The last time I rescued a dog like this I laid on the ground a fed him cookies. When he go close enough I got him. I hope your little on makes it home soon...

February 15th, 2009, 10:51 AM
Just wanted to add my  & :goodvibes: for a safe return real soon!:grouphug:

February 16th, 2009, 04:37 PM
I have recieved calls,
Reputable sources, who knows,
from westmount to verdun, almost geographically impossible.
Where to look, who knows anymore.
really empty feeling day.

February 16th, 2009, 04:41 PM
Naomi, don't despair just yet...something good can still happen :goodvibes::goodvibes:

I have your dogs ad posted on my Facebook profile and so do some other people....that is getting the picture/story out there.

I can't imagine 11 days without my luvs...I find grooming days long :o

People are still looking...:grouphug:

February 16th, 2009, 05:26 PM
I will try to hang in there, but it's getting pretty bad.
The hollowness just keeps getting worse & worse as each day passes.

February 16th, 2009, 05:51 PM
I truly understand your pain, but don't give up and again don't underestimate how far the little guy can travel.
Follow up on leads. I made a web page on and when I would get a call I would have them look at all the pictures on the web page before driving to check it out in person. Everyone is amazed at the huge binder I have full of #'s I have followed up. I know a lot were not my dog
but at least people were looking.
Don't give up hope...just make as many people as you can aware that he is missing. I made up a business card size card with a picture on one side and contact info on the other side & gave it to anyone I could talk to.

February 16th, 2009, 07:27 PM
In time like this, it is great to have all of this support
great idea the business card.
Thank you

February 17th, 2009, 11:33 AM
Hi Naomi - our Gracie has just come back to us after 42 days. Don't give up hope.

February 17th, 2009, 03:34 PM
I am so happy to hear that Gracie has come home,
Enjoy her.
give her a cookie for me.
Thanks for the ggod news

February 17th, 2009, 03:56 PM
Don't give up! When my neighbours lost their beagle, I found him in another province!!
He had been picked up by a stranger in a car, driven 30 minutes away where he escaped again and ended up in a rescue where I saw him by chance.

February 17th, 2009, 06:08 PM
I saw your ad in the Montreal Gazette as did a number of friends so I can only imagine how many people it reached across the island. I'll keep my eyes open for Crystal here in Westmount and am in contact with lots of people in the dog community here.

Have you posted her photo at vet clinics around town?

February 17th, 2009, 09:28 PM
Yes, I have posted it in vets around town,
Thank you,

February 22nd, 2009, 07:42 AM
17 days
No news on Crystal
Thanks All

February 22nd, 2009, 08:31 AM
naomi,so sorry,but please don't give up:grouphug::pray:

February 22nd, 2009, 11:37 AM
Don't give up...I wanted to share this email I got from an owner who lost her dog in Toronto:
Hi Shirley,

A neighbour had grabbed my dog and was holding on to him for over a week, they took care of him and really liked him in hopes to keep him, but Audi missed his home and wouldn't let no one sleep or play with him. I went around distributing many flyer's to all neighbours and near by business which made difficult for them to keep him and finally they took him to an animal shelter in Mississauga.

The flyer's and posters really helped out. The local news paper was going to be my next step.

The one thing I learnt from all of this is, if your dog has been gone for over 3-4 days and you have not heard anything, someone has to be holding on to them and the best thing to do is spread the word around. Never give up, dogs know their home!

I think there are many of us who believe their pets have been kept by someone...I do believe this happens more
than we want to imagine!

March 9th, 2009, 06:58 PM
Naomi, any news at all?:pray:

Tarzan (:rip:) went missing for over a week. We searched high and low, drove out to every possible sighting...When all hope was gone, one night he came home, jumped the fence to the back yard and came by the back door, knowing that at the front we wouldn't see/hear him till morning. This was beginning of March 2001. He found his way back, in a strange city (I just moved to MTL a couple of months before that)...

Don't give up...Keep looking! :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:

March 12th, 2009, 07:58 PM
Well, I just want to say Crystal has not come home.
you can see the date of this posting, No calls, no sitings.
People in the past have told me that they lost their dogs, for the life of me I could never understand how such a thing happens.
Every action in my days revolved around the dogs, I never opened the door without making sure the inside door was closed first.
The dogs had their own back yard with a six foot fence.
I just want to say I know this is my fault.
I take full responsibility for what happened....
I should have done better maintenance on the fence.
My little pampered princess Crystal was lost out in the cold because of me.

March 12th, 2009, 10:29 PM
Good luck finding your girl, I am sure she will turn up.

March 15th, 2009, 10:07 AM
Is there anbody out there that might go to berger blanc regularly or frequently or even sometimes, that might be able to have a peek for crystal.
I hve been going, but it's a long trip.
Let me know thanks,
Just if there is someone who goes, I am not asking anyone to make a special trip.
Thank you again,

March 15th, 2009, 10:25 AM
Aw Naomi, I am so sorry for you and all the others with furbabies out there somewhere and we don't know where!!!

Please, try to remain positive...someone has to know something.

I don't live near Berger Blanc either or I would be happy to help

March 15th, 2009, 08:50 PM
Dear Diandpat,
Thank you,

April 7th, 2009, 08:26 PM
Well, it is over 2 months.
one never stops wondering, What happened
Thank you everyone,

April 7th, 2009, 08:37 PM

April 8th, 2009, 07:41 AM
naomi,:pray:little Crystal is safe somewhere, such a beautiful little JRT.
I know your heart is broken, also that you'll never stop looking for her.
Miracles do happen:grouphug::grouphug:

April 8th, 2009, 03:14 PM
My greatest distress comes from wondering if Crystal feels that I abondoned her. If another family does have her, which is OK I guess, that she doesn't understand what happened.
If only some questions could be answered.
Always hanging in there & continually lying to the kids to assure them, that Crystal is happy wherever she is.

April 8th, 2009, 03:33 PM
It's the not knowing that is the worst and I also suffered the following many years ago with a cat of mine.

We all say to keep the hope which is a good thing. One also must be realistic however and deal with the grief and disappointment of not knowing what happened.

My thoughts are with you and I so can understand how you feel. I have moved on now though I will always remember her.:grouphug:

April 8th, 2009, 04:12 PM
I have never lost an animal for long, but I can understand what your thoughts would be,is she safe, does she look for us etc,etc...
I lost my Chico(cat)and we looked for him for 2 hours,I was near hysteria only to find him sitting panting on our front porch.
What a huge relief!
It would be very difficult to find closure, not knowing, but I:pray:your little girl is safe.
Hopefully one day someone will come forward and you'll know:fingerscr:grouphug:

April 9th, 2009, 03:57 AM
My heart goes out to you, Naomi. :grouphug:

Hopefully, one day you will be reunited with Crystal. :fingerscr :goodvibes:
