Hello,
my sister has a 6 month old lab/pit mix female puppy and when she's excited, she humps on people's leg. Is this normal for a female? I have had a few female dogs and I've never seen this?

It is a dominance issue - not a sex issue.

It's not uncommon that some male and female dogs do this. She should not be allowed to however. A loud "hey" or "uh uh" followed by being ignored for a short period of time can be used to discourage this sort of behavior. Is your sister considering obedience classes? Now would be a good time to start so she can learn what behaviors are acceptable, what aren't, and how she can address each.

Could also be an issue of exhuberance and overstimulation: http://www.dogstardaily.com/blogs/happy-humper

But it's still funny. Sorry, couldn't resist.

Yes, it is a dominance thing.

*snort* Sorry, it is funny. I cannot count how many times I have been humped when I worked in the shelter.
