New fur baby, Duke

January 10th, 2009, 08:48 AM
Well this is our second week with our new fur baby, Duke, and we can't be happier (that is except for Aminnou). :cat:

He thinks my old golden, Chelsea, will sometimes play with him but she'd rather just sleep on her blanket.

He's a little bandit in that he's taken every sock and item of clothing that's laying around the house and brings it back to his blanket. He just turned 6 months on Monday and he's a great addition to our family.

The first few days were hilarious in that he had no idea what to do with his toys but then when he got the hang of it the toys are spread throughout the house.

Here's a pic of Duke along with another of he and Chelsea sharing a blanket together.

LOL Duke is already 45 pounds (we found out when he had his check-up at the vet's). So at 6 months already 45 pounds now we're wondering how big he's going to be at a year! :D

No way we're giving him up Free, sorry your hubby's going to have to wait on another pup.

He still doesn't realize that Chelsea doesn't want to play with him and he tries every day and each time he comes in from outside, it's really funny.

He's also starting to get closer to Aminnou, our cat. The cat is more inclined to tap his nose with his paws as if he's boxing but they're not at the stage of being friends yet, sometime soon I hope.

Yeah I was surprised at how much he weighed when we took him to the vet. The breeder told us he was just over 30 pounds when we went to see him but I think that must have been a while before and they didn't realize he was heavier.

He's been sleeping on our bed and it's kind of funny to see how quickly he falls asleep once the lights are turned out. It's even more hilarious to watch him in the morning - we lift him onto the bed at night but when we leave the room and he wants to get down he's almost not sure to jump off the bed on his own! He'll stand on the bed and bark for us to go back and get him.

Next thing to do within the next month is to go through an obedience course with him. He's quite good and is picking things up quick. He learned the sit and down and even crumbs (when he leaves pieces of his kibble or crumbs on the floor).

Hubby has had to try to find pairs of matching socks as Duke is the sock bandit and there are single socks of all colours all over the house. He manages to find any laying around or within his reach and he makes off with them to his blankie, he's a real :clown:

obedience classes are good for them. just a little word of advice airedales have a mind of their own so no matter how well they are trained they still might choose to ignore you if they want to. are first airedale only listened to hubby. this one will listen to anyone when he wants or will look at you and do what he wants.
